I've heard rumors that the director is good friends with Tom Cruise, and wants to have him in the film in a small role.
I say "Go for it!" - just put Tom Cruise in a red shirt, have him step into frame during an away team sequence, maybe utter a lil something like "Would you look at that!" then BLAM!!- I'd pay full price to see the film, just for that one sequence. :D |
Reserving judgement. I can buy Spock being in a film, because Vulcans live a long time. I'm not sure about having the other characters replaced, and not have Kirk, but we'll see.

Spock was on the maiden crew with Number 1 and Captain Pike, so maybe Nimoy will play Spock's father's father who drops him off at the academy on the first day of space school. The elder Nimoy still has cheekbones, after all.
Shatner, on the other hand, now looks like a demented kewpie doll with his generous red, rosy cheeks, and therefore could only be believable as a Buddy Lee-shaped asteroid that they pass before they finally get back to the V-ger planet in time for the resurrection of the dead bald chick from the very first movie who will proceed to dance with Ricardo Montablan and Joan Collins, who all laugh mockingly at Bill (Mr. Lonely) Shatner. At least, that's what he dreams every night. Heartbroken Bill then hits the convention circuit with all of the acerbic bitterness of 1970s-era Foster Grant shade-tippin' Clayton Moore who wasn't allowed to wear his Lone Ranger mask anymore because they didn't want him to frighten any potential new fans. I'm guessing the meeting with J.J.didn't go well. |
From what I've heard, Nimoy will play older Spock reminiscing at the begining of the movie. The rest of the movie is a flashback.

Spock? Reminiscing??? That's worth the price of admission right there! :D But if that's the case, it would have been great to start out with an event like a Star Fleet gala party comemerating the USS Enterprise, and have the remaining cast sitting around the table reminiscing how it all began, don't you think? |
I think it would depend on how it was done. Either way though, Kirk is already dead and wouldn't be there.
|
Well, since the actors who famously play Scotty and McCoy are also dead, I think such a scene would make emminent sense.
|
Where's that can-do spirit?
Ricardo Montalban's latex chest is no longer in use.
![]() Put Shatner in that thing and give him at least a walk-on. |
When will they do the Baby Looney Tunes/Muppet Babies/Li'l Bush animated version of the Enterprise crew together as little kids?
Lord, who needs this? |
Actually...during the 90s Sulu, Chekov, Scotty and Uhura were seriously pushing Paramount for a Trek-based sitcom featuring their characters, now retired, all running a Cheers-esque space saloon for Federation crewmembers on leave.
And the occasional drunk Klingon. Mayhem ensues. |
