Wow. What a pretty looking film! I miss 2D animation...
I'm a maybe as well.
:)

I tried to watch it when it originally aired on the SciFi Channel. But I kept wanting to throw things at my TV. I don't think anyone connected to the production had ever read the books. It's awfull!

I never bothered with the SciFi channel miniseries. Apparently Le Guin was not thrilled with the way it turned out.

Here's what she thinks of the Ghibli movie.

Oh! You're talking about a new animated version! Cool! (I thought you were going to screen the miniseries.)

ETA: It sounds like she doesn't care much for this version either.

It's a definite no, unless we simulcast. Then it's a yes. But I'd need to get myself region-free goodness and the DVD... and we're just trying to get ourselves a DVD player that can play some Blu-Ray or some HD. Oh, the woes of the upgrade!

I had to go back and re-read the books as a ritual cleansing.

LOL!

Interested but don't think I can this weekend. Sorry man.

I haven't read the books .... maybe I'll be inspired to by the Ghibli film. And that would be the proper order - - movie first, then books.

(Though I don't look kindly toward anything that's books plural.)

Chernabog 01-04-2008 01:49 PM

I'd like to go!!! I read the books when I was a kid but I don't remember them. (At least, I read the first three). I'll have to dig em up after Saturday (I'm still massively engrossed in re-reading the "Dune" series, which incidentally was also made into a Sci-Fi channel miniseries, lol).
