Well, I read the comments ... so I have to concur the original owner did a good thing ... but since the theft was discovered when the current owner tried to sell the car, it kinda detracts the total sweetness from her getting the car after all ... since she's likely not going to keep it.

I still want zapppop's dad's mustang. Grrrrr.

yeah, I know but at least the guy had the clusters to say 'uh..no thanks. you take it'.

I also like the nice symbolic 'a dollar and year and we'll call it good'. with luck he took that money and bought the two of 'em dinner.

(and if not, dont tell me. I like happy endings)

My mother's boyfriend (they've been together over 30 years) has a 1956 Corvette convertible (with a removable hardtop). It was in his garage, untouched, for about 25 years. About 2 years ago, he started restoring it. He has almost all original parts, especially the ones that matter (with serial numbers). He is the only owner.

Me wants (but will never get).

he probably saw some of the $500K ones roll across the Barrett Jackson auctions....

yeah, thats a motivator for a lot of car nuts

My best friends Dad had that exact car. He'd owned it in college and sold it one day, her mom was horrified and said it was the only reason she'd married him in the first place ;)

As an anniversary present one year he bought it back for her. Fast forward a few years and her younger brother got the car and totalled it in less than a month.

I'm not sure he will sell it. Says he wants to be buried in it.

He totalled an original 56 Vette? Remind me to kill him next time I see him.
