LOL - then perhaps I won't be the only one to benefit (ahem) from this thread.

I adored Secretary - it is probably among my top 15 favorites. I'll recommend the director's next film, which several people did not like (but I enjoyed - though not as much as Secretary.) It's Fur, an Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus, starring Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr.

From the reviews I'm read - it seems you either LOVE it or hate the movie Secretary. Interesting to read the reviews. Some people just don't "get it".

LOVED Secretary!

Story of O was good for soft porn, but not good filmmaking (but I saw it almost 30 years ago). I wonder how it would hold up now.

Pillow Book is wonderful and I'm liking Last Tango more and more (I hated it the first time I saw it).

I know there are others but nothing is coming to mind at the moment.

I'm in the HATED it camp.

Or rather, didn't care for it. The psychologys just struck me as false and improbable (yet hardly unheard of or impossible). Perhaps because I know quite a few people with the Dom/sub bent, it just struck me as terribly off-key about the admittedly prominent psychoses I personally have come across.

I think my personal feelings prevented me from appreciating it as cinema, so perhaps it's a very good film. The performances were great.

Okay then - what does qualify as a good film of that bent in your opinion? Always looking for more suggestions!

Interested in seeing Secretary now.
:)

You know, I can't think of a single erotic gay mainstream film. There needs to be more of them.

The Pillow Book is a clever, beautiful film. Oddly, it is also a crashing bore that is about twice as long as it needed to be. And it wasn't that long.
