Well, he didn't ask us to despise him. It may border on TMI, but would you expect any of us to leave any thought unshared? Live and let despise. That's what I always say.

Yes, he's right in listing those as presidents who get their own little section of the film - I was listing those whose actual voices are heard. so, to clarify:

Presidents given focused story attention:

Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Kennedy -

Presidents who are heard on soundtrack giving memorial speeches:

Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, George W (at ground zero with the bull horn)

I think that's everyone - along with George, Abe and Barack, of course.

But how did they manage that? Yee's review has it that the pastiche of speeches was retired in favor of the Gettysburg Address in its entirety? Did Royal Dano record that whole speech back in the 60's?

Yes, he did. According to the HoP show producer Pam Fisher, Dano recorded the Gettysburg address back in the early 60s, and it was widely available as Side Two of Disneyland Records lp, with the original Great Moments show on Side 1. The team had access to the original tapes, which were remastered for the show. (Was this not what was used for the most recent "Great Moments" in CA - y'know, the one with the hilarious 3D audio? He did Gettysburg in that show, yes? My brain is fuzzy and doesn't retain facts well at all anymore.)

No Cindy, I was not aware. And think about that for a moment. If I hate the man, is it likely I'll know who his friends are?

Sorry if I offended anyone's sensibilities with my personal opinion of a person.

So, Flippy, I feel as if I'm out of the loop regarding some personal involvement you may have had with the show. What's the story?

morning glory

flippyshark 07-05-2009 01:29 PM

Um, I had nothing to do with it! (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!) Any resemblance between me and a contract writer who occasionally works for WDI is strictly coincidental. I also do windows. Maybe birthday parties.

Gn2Dlnd 07-05-2009 02:05 PM

OOhh, nevermind!

On the windows thing, though, I may or may not have a specialty diet foods store that may or may not have plate glass windows that need cleaning.

Or not.

Cadaverous Pallor 07-06-2009 07:58 AM

Flippy, you're right, it was the full Gettysburg address during Great Haircuts with Mr. Barber (and Featuring Mr. Lincoln Somewhat). I can't say that I know it was Dano doing the voice. There were a ton of other new bits ("You must live, boah!") so I assume it wasn't him...

Gn2Dlnd 07-06-2009 10:35 AM

It was not Mr. Dano. Don't know who it was nuzzling your left ear.

Whisper sweet nothings to me, Abie baby!

innerSpaceman 07-06-2009 10:57 AM

Yeah, that's why I didn't know that Dano recorded the entire Gettysburg. I wasn't aware of that old LP with a bunch of his unused Lincoln recordings.

Me Wants!
