Ike's Place gets an eviction notice after much haggling. Not of interest to anyone really (unless you love their sandwiches). Article here but it was this quote that jumped out:

Quote:

As the popularity of Shehadeh's shop grew, neighbors became increasingly frustrated with the blocklong lines, noisy customers and persistent smell of fried bacon.
Like that is a bad thing? ;)

Craft: How to Make Your Own Bacon.

I am continually astounded by the sheer volume of things that crop up in this thread. Just when I think we have found everything there could possibly be about bacon, something new comes in.

I love it!!!

Now that Gary has a smoker he wants to make bacon. First he has to find a butcher to buy the pork belly from. Thankfully i think it will take him a little while.

Here ya' go

Shhh, don't tell him! We actually went to the butcher a couple towns over and they don't carry such a thing  The only brisket they had was 5 pounds, not quite what he had in mind.

I found him a 12 pound brisket up in Salem but no pork belly there either.

So someday when he has the time he can look around Portland before he heads home. He actually saw a Gartners ad this weekend and said he'd go there. I know him though and he hates to shop so I suspect I have little while before he does.

Then again, every weekend he's out there smoking something, in the smoker this time, and having a good old time.

This weekend we did pork loin. I made my half kaulua pork and he did some apple juice marinade. We shredded them both up and Yummm!

Well, you'd think your butcher could, like, um, maybe, place an order for pork belly when they get the porky parts from their supplier? Just sayin, nobody does a special order any more?

All that smokey goodness you are talking about is making my mouth water!

cirquelover 08-09-2010 07:39 PM

I kind of thought it was crazy that they couldn't order what we wanted too!

The boy looked at me tonight and asked if we had something nonpork to eat. He had little brisket sandwiches. I guess I'll do pork but I can't decide between the kaulua, which I'd need to make rice for, or just having some of the bbq sauced up apple pork. Hmmm..... choices and ones I like for once!

I eschew bacon now. Just sayin'. And I don't read gthis thread anymore. Ya gotta believe me.

Mushrooms taste almost like bacon in food. Close your eyes and you can't tell the difference. Really.
