Yep. From Wikipedia:

In contrast, Eastern Washington, east of the Cascades, has a relatively dry climate with large areas of semiarid steppe and a few truly arid deserts lying in the rainshadow of the Cascades;

HERE YE! HERE YE!

I am setting a very modest goal this afternoon. As can be seen and heard around here plans are rapidly coming together for Swank Camp 2009. As much as I'd like to be there it just isn't going to happen. So without knowing whn ore where 2010's Swank Camp will be My goal is to be able to make an extended trip to California to go to Swank Camp 2010 and swing by Disneyland as well. If there is no Swnak Camp in 2010 well I'll burn that bridge when we get there.

It's two years away....by setting this goal now I think I can manage it dont ya think?

OMG, yes! I grew up there! Born and raised in Richland! (With Kennewick and the aforementioned Pasco, one of the Tri-Cities) 20 below in the winter, 115 in the summer. Sand, sagebrush and Russian olive trees. Lizards, snakes and black widow spiders. Average annual rainfall 7 inches.

Lots of time spent on horseback and on the river. The big annual event is still the unlimited hydroplane race in July.

Richland is the original nuclear boom town. Population went from 420 to 12,000 overnight as the Manhatten Project took over to build Hanford and produce plutonium. Material from Hanford was at the core of the bomb dropped on Nagasaki. For forty years, the major industry was power and plutonium. Now it's cleanup.

The Richland High School mascot is the Bombers. Our symbol is a mushroom cloud.

TMI?
