I feel so removed from the situation, since grandma's death and mom's divorce, but learning of it has brought back a rush of great memories. Christmases, vacations, birthdays, reunions... all of which I was made a part of. He and grandma always made sure I felt special, even if I wasn't biologically related to them. I have missed grandma every day since, and I miss grandpa, just knowing he is gone.

My condolences, Erica.

Dear BlueErica,

I am sorry to learn of the loss of your Grandpa (step or otherwise). The emotions you are expressing (now) reflect the sentiments I expressed in this post http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/...ostcount=1121,, and hold true even when skipping a generation back to your Grandparents.

I hope you have plenty of good photos, and are brave enough to hang some on your walls - the memory of your Grandpa is only as good as you can make it...

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.

blueerica, my deepest sympathies on your loss. Your grandparents both sound like really wonderful people to have had in your life.

Indeed - and also, we fly out on Thursday for the interment of my grandmother's ashes (she passed away in April.)

My love and thoughts to both of you.

Thanks everyone for the sentiments.

I had a feeling that my sisters (half, it was their grandfather who passed) weren't told, so I delivered the news last night. It was odd, though, since they barely knew him. They were saddened as much by the loss, but from losing something they were never given the chance to have.

It's strange how life's circumstances can create distances where there didn't need to be any. Petty differences easily become 'more important' than the big picture, and again, the innocent suffer from it. It's impossible to have it all, but to have the chance robbed from you when you're just a child. I guess I'm hurting a bit for them.

On a tangent, J and I were out to dinner and an older man randomly came up and gave me a compliment, then told us (essentially) to not take one another for granted. He didn't seem crazy, just distraught - he recently lost his wife who was putting a bandaid on him one minute and a few minutes later she was gone.

You can't make life any longer to give yourself that second chance... later... to tell someone you love them, to make something right, to be everything you can. Do it now. There will be the future, but there's always today.

*sigh*

Definitely take the time to appreciate loved ones. I've made sure the last few years to always sign off conversations with my mother by saying "I love you" even though she can't say it back to me. It used to hurt, but now I understand her a bit. She does what she can.
