Got on the scale this morning, down 7 lbs! Which means this year down nearly 50lbs! I've dropped at least one size in clothing, I think nearly 2 sizes as the pants are getting more than roomy. This carb watching and exercise is working wonders! BS has been much better, too. Although I can't figure out how it can be 116 when I go to bed and 145 when I get up in the morning.

Your blood sugars rise overnight because you're not doing any activity. During the day even if you're not exercising you're typing or turning the page in a book or whatever and that all burns a certain amount of carbs. At night even though you're not completely stationary you use a lot less carbs than when you're awake. Maddie's insulin rate at night is almost double what it is during the day to compensate for this.

And congratulations on the weight loss!

This makes me doubt my GD diagnosis even more... my BS is ALWAYS fine in the morning, like between 80-90.

VDMV (Your Diabetes May Vary) is the common phrase on T1 boards. Every person has different issues. Not waking up high does not mean you don't have GD.

It does mean you didn't smoke enough.

Also....STOP CALLING IT GD.

Thanks Katie. I'm encouraged.

I really appreciate all your advice and such, it's been really helpful!

Of course, YDMV, but the last couple of days I've had a much better handle on the BS and taking care with what I am eating. After all, what we're aiming for right now is stabilizing it as much as possible.

Only sucky thing is am I am now a recovering bread addict. ;)

Fingers crossed. Dukie has a vet check tomorrow if he passes he'll finally have a new home.

Good luck to Dukie!
