My 2 week quest for a good char-broiled burger has finally been successful! Zeke's BBQ, a bit pricey, but excellent! Big juicy burger, charred on the outside, and the mostest adorable surfer looking delivery boy that chatted me up during my meal. I may have to rent an apartment in Montrose just to order delivery food!
Anyhow, hot delivery boy or not, I'll return to Zeke's, already 1 of my 2 favorite BBQ places in L.A., for the burger. Join me, won't you?

This is way cool. Out of my price range and not the sort of thing I necessarily would seek out, but as a vintage item, pretty darn cool. (Make it '64 and we'll talk, hehe)

My Blazer may be getting a second life. I have a friend who can and will install a new converter for me. All it will cost me is the part itself, and he can get a good price on that, plus some cookies. He also wants to fix my broken door panel.

I love having good friends.

Cool MG! Yes, good friends are a blessing indeed!

Just got back last night from Vegas. I like Vegas. I have a new favorite song: Skullcrusher Mountain by Jonathan Coulton. I also have a couple new friends. :)

So.....I'm having fun warping my son and my nephew. I turned them on to Stephen King for their reading pleasure. I even brought out my Cycle of the Werewolf for them to read.

Now I have to reread some of them to figure out which ones they are not old enough to read!

that's easy...

they're not old enough for:
  • menstruating telekinetics
  • Vampires
  • Nukey-lar Disaster survival novels
  • Psychics named Johnny
  • Pyrokinetic Girls
  • Beasties in a foggy supermarket
  • rabid dogs
  • re-animation of pets
  • killer cars
  • werewolves.. oops, too late...
  • sewer clowns
  • unhealthy napkin-weaving obsessions
  • things that eat time
  • psychotic literature fans
  • psychotic authors
  • psychotic shop-owners
  • psychotic well-dumping wives
  • psychotic B&D games gone wrong
  • psychotic ‘little bald doctors’
  • Rita Hayworth
  • Paintings of women wearing rose madder gowns
  • Small Nevada towns along highway 50
  • Jails with mice
  • Children whose first name starts with k
  • Anything to do with little tall island
  • a bottle of water, two Twinkies, a boiled egg, a sandwich, a large bottle of Surge, a poncho, a Game Boy, and a Walkman.
  • Red fuzzy stuff
  • Buicks with really large trunk capacity
  • out-of-state cigarette tax stamps
  • mobile phones with new ‘pulse’ feature
  • sticky-beak novelist’s wives
  • small china dolls found in buried treasure
ok, now seriously, get 'the eyes of the dragon' for them.

Well, it's a cold day in hell.

I've finally replaced my vintage computer with a sleek new Acer unit. (It's SHINY!) Goodbye Windows 98! I can now watch videos, upload photos, and I'm sure I'll be discovering more stuff I can do.

What I can't do is go to the bathroom, do housework, or read a book while waiting for pages to load.

I may also have time to read more than just this thread a few others. You may actually hear from me a little more often. With pictures!

Now to learn my way around Vista...

Here is my one tip for a (possible) major performance improvement in Vista: make sure that the Windows Aero Color Scheme is not in use.

(I have the Control Panels view set to "Classic View" - you may have to make some modifications to these steps.)

Go to Control Panels > Personalization > Windows Color and Appearance

Under "Color Scheme", choose anything besides "Windows Aero"

I am sure there are other ways to get to this and maybe somebody else has input on this topic, but I have found that turning off Windows Aero to have a huge (positive) impact on the performance of my machine.
