Well, he did work at Target Range Middle School.

A man is traveling on a bike at 25MPH towards a bear 10 feet away. How much time does that man have to ponder his unfulfilling waste of a life, his general contempt for his job and the students he teaches, and to curse God and the festering cesspool of a universe She's created before he impacts the bear. Answer: Fvck this, half of you are going to drop out anyway and the other half are just going to drain your parents' bank account while you bullsh*t your way through college and play video games on their couch until you're 35, unmarried, and hoping Devry won't ask for a resume. |
And for the nerds who won't be put off by a simple teacher meltdown the answer is 0.27 seconds.

You didn't show your work.

25 miles per hour = 25 miles per (60 minutes/hour)*1 hour = 25 miles per (60 seconds/minute)(60 minutes/hour)*1 hour = (5280 feet/mile)*25 mile = (60 seconds/minute)(60 minutes/hour)*1 hour.
All of that reduces to 132,000 feet/3600 seconds which equals 36.66667 feet per second. Since we know that he was traveling 36.666667 feet/second but want to know how much he traveled in one second we cross multiply the fractions to get 36.6666667x = 10. Solving for x by dividing 36.66666667 into 10 you get the final answer of 0.27272727.... However, since the initial word problem only provide 2 significant digits the answer must be limited to 0.27 |

Too complicated. You look at it and you see he travels 10 feet in 1/13200 of an hour. Divide 3600 by 13200 and there's your answer.
|
Not repeating. See final sentence in "showing my work." Since the figures given are not absolutes the math can only be done to the precision of the input figures. In this case, two significant digits.
Love, Nerds not put off by a simple teacher meltdown. (And, of course, I didn't actually do all that work in getting the answer the first time. I was being intentionally overly procedural) |

I was way too nice for way too long. It's a fault of mine that I'm working to change. There's a difference between being compassionate and being a doormat/punching bag. And, if that makes me a bitch, so be it. Bitch gotta get paid!!! :snap: |
I'm sorry I asked ;)
But a gold star for Alex! |
