So a few minutes ago this old lady dropped her lunch all over the floor. Two men immediately jumped up to help her. Manners still matter! But seriously, it warms my cold, black heart.

Maybe I'm the only one who's experiencing this, but it seems like everyone's being so NICE today. There was the above incident, then on the way out, two young guys (of the generation you mightn't expect this from) both stopped and held the door for me. And when I'd first gotten in line to order, the person ahead of me in line made eye contact and smiled.

All normal stuff, just not very common these days.

Are you wearing Impulse today, by chance? ;)

This response is somewhat late to the party, but I'll still make it.

Perhaps in some cases it's less fear and more annoyance to the responses their statements get. For instance, I am definitely on the straight side of the Kinsey but I definitely can admit that I find women attractive without feeling the impulse to have sex with them. Yet every time I do around YOU, my dear, you tell me I'm gay.

Now, I'm not afraid of being called gay. I'm not even afraid of being gay. But I'm a big ol' breeder. I like the boy-parts. And I find it generally annoying to be labeled with something, even in jest, when it's not really my label. So I don't mention it as much anymore.

ok, I so wasnt going to address this, but eh...wth. forgive me, Im in a mood

did anyone ever think that maybe its the phrasing thats the problem?

now, the following examples do portay a somewhat less open minded set than frequent our shores here on LoT, but I think you'll get the point Im trying to make.

__________

woman "honey...do you think hes attractive?"

guy "WTF? I'M NOT ATTRACTED TO MEN!" (any possibility on having this conversation is now gone)

-vs-

woman "honey....that guy looks really good, dont you think?"
guy "eh. I could look that good if I paid $5k for a suit, another $500 for a haircut and had a personal trainer"

the result:
a) he has now admitted the guy looked good....move on.
b) its not a fight or a challenge to his heteronessosssity,so hes not
c) he knows now he needs a haircut and a new suit (good luck with the trainer thing)

see my point? WE, the male-hetero collective, know full well when someone looks good, male or female.

the problem is the WORD "attractive"

IMHO YMMV

:D

What??! Have I really?

Oh my, well since I know very well you are a breeder who likes the boy-parts, I'm sure I was good naturedly joshing if I ever called you a gay.

This will be tough, since I don't recall ever doing it in the first place, but I'll certainly do my best to never let that slip again. So sorry. :(

LSPoorEeyorick 09-16-2008 06:02 PM

Aw, it's really OK. You're not the only one who's called me gay on account-a being able to say I can see the attractiveness potential of women - others have done it far more than you.

And I am certain you were doing it in jest... but society's jesting might just be the reason others balk or cringe at admitting that they find those out of their standard gender preference attractive!
