A massive fire destroyed the original library and as much as possible was salvaged and re-used from the original facility.

I personally prefer upcycling, repurposing or whatever you choose to call it over filling up a landfill.

Regarding books, my logic is at war with my emotions. Logic says it's not useful any more, emotion just screams that books can't be harmed.

Information can't be harmed. Books are just a historically convenient way of storing and transporting information.
