I'm putting together something special for Rose's mom.

The sucky thing is, I won't be there to see her get her gift :(

Think of a chocolate truffle spiked with a hint of alcohol. It's pretty good.

No.

You're a freak for entirely different reasons.

Another Saturday morning means another trip to our Farmer's Market. We have quickly become "regulars" at a booth. Oh, not a produce booth, mind you. No, we're regulars at the croissant booth. Of course. It's not bad enough that he recognizes us, or even that he says "oh, I have something you'll really like!" It's that he's RIGHT.

Croissants are yummy.

Our last dog survived eating quite a lot of chocolate (he got into it while we were gone- not like we gave it to him). He was quite a stinker.

I have since learned that dogs can't have almonds, grapes, or a lot of kinds of bones. I had thought anything but chicken was fair game, but the vet says even things like pork chops can splinter and cause problems. I used to love feeding our current hound grapes but she can't have them anymore.

Currently I'm avoiding packing for our trip to Vegas. I'm hoping the snow is melted.

I assume that, because it's a costume drama, they were giving the dog "doggie chocs" or some other non-toxic substitute, all the while saying it was chocolate. They don't use real bullets in the guns during duels, either. ;)

...Stoat says that despite all that, he suspects they were giving Gemma Jones real champagne (he noticed she tends to mouth other peoples lines while they're saying them - but only when she's drinking champagne in the scene)

Snow day in Portland

It started early this morning. Small, persistant flakes drifting down in a steady snowfall. I had breakfast, I did some work around the apartment, I took care of some email. It still fell. I watched a sappy movie. It still fell. I finally had to face facts.

Last minute shopping does not wait. It's do or die time, and tomorrow promises turn from picturesque to truly nasty. So I headed out. I took my camera with me.

My apartment building as I left:

Fortunately, I live within walking distance to downtown. And, this being Portland, transit is easy. My chosen vehicle, the streetcar.

Please note the 2-3 inches on the ground. This is about 1:00.

Some Portland landmarks...

Pioneer Courthouse:

Powell's Books:

Notice that the snow hasn't slowed down other shoppers, either.

The pendulum sculpture across from Powells. It's interactive - with a good shove you can set it swinging ponderously. This piece is lovingly nicknamed "Satan's Testicle".

One of my favorite little parks in the Pearl, Jameson Square:

Yeah, the snow's piling up now. This is about 3:30.

Got shopping done and got home by 4:00. This is the view out my window:

I'm hunkered down for an evening of mochas, frozen pizza, movies, reading and wrapping presents.

If I forget to say it later, Merry Christmas from the frozen north to all my friends on the LoT!

Also Macadamia Nuts, onions, raisins (worse than grapes), and large amounts of avocado are also toxic. Some people food in large quantity can cause pancreatitis which can be fatal.
