What we will probably see is that we won't ween ourselves off of gasoline until we are forced to. Which means that we will never see lower overall gas prices.

Well, cars shouldn't ever have cost so much. Nor should have houses.

Maybe I'm dumb to feel that way but I do. And, athletes shouldn't make so much money, either. :p

  1. Why shouldn't athletes (and entertainers) make so much money? What solid reason is there for not making so much? It has already been proven that the market will bear it.
  2. I did the full research on another board that we were all on that crashed and lost all my research. But basically, the oil companies do not make any more than comparable companies on a percentage basis (if I recall correctly, it was around 9-10% gross profit). People just freak out when they see the dollar amount. But when they have sales dollars in the levels they are, even a small percentage of profit is still a huge figure.

Are you saying that gas here (the US is higher than other countries or lower? The correct answer is that generally, gas (and diesel) in the US is much less than most other countries (not counting oil producing nations such as Kuwait, Venezuela, Iraq, et. al.)

One of many sources.

I am saying that the cost of gas in the US is much cheaper than the cost of gas in Canada, Europe and Australia (and others).

Marlena and John, noooo! :( My mom will be devastated.

Correct.

I used to watch Days of our Lives regularly in grad school (a bunch of us actually confessed to relaxing with it LOL) and I catch it about...once a year now. So sad about John and especially Marlena who was the anchor of the show. Wish they'd gotten rid of ALL the sucky young people instead. When they brought the teens on, that's when I lost interest.

Sooo... We went to George's Greek Cafe on Pine tonight (Friday night special: Kleftico - marvelous). They just moved to a new location just down the street from the old one. We noticed that the old location already had a new tenant. Some restaurant called Melette Inn. We were trying to figure out just who or what a "melette" is when we noticed that there was an egg with a smiley face right in front of the name. Then it dawned on us....

Another example of bad logo design.

Well sure, athletes and celebrities make a lot of money and I haven't heard of them not ever being paid.

It doesn't make it right. If things were put into a more realistic amount, perhaps certain things would balance out. I am not saying they are the reason for the cost of gas, the two have nothing to do with one another. Just two thoughts that I had.

What companies are you talking about that make similar profit? Other companies that gouge us? It all sounds good but when you hear excuses why it costs so much and then why they won't process it or how if it doesn't cost so much they can't afford to research other means of fuel, it sure feels like people are being robbed.

As for other countries, I don't know the politics of it but I am only going by {what I know about} our own oil purchasing/consumption. I don't know how other countries obtain their oil/gas. If they have refineries or if they don't.

How else do you explain what has happened with our gas prices? Their reasons don't always go along with what is really happening and they've admitted, basically, to manipulating the oil/refineries to play with the price of gas.

That's all I'm saying . I don't like being part of their game. So, if for a while, the price is low, and they are crying, well, it's about time.

Agreed. Phooey on the twenty-something secret agents. And, I never quite got over the change in Romans.
