Sorry to hear that Prudence.

I'm sorry, Pru. You know we're here if there's anything we can do.

RIGHT NOW - at this very moment, my parents are getting ready to go through the Panama Canal! Too cool.
There's currently another ship in the first lock - but I think they are after that one. (they were supposed to begin about 7am mountain time - which is now - so I'm assuming they are next.) So neat that I might see their ship on the webcam as it goes through. Wonders of modern technology and all. :snap: |
I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother, Pru. Hugs to you.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, Pru. My grandmother passed away two weeks ago, after suffering with Alzheimer's for 9 years. H & I flew out for her funeral in NJ so we could mark her passing and support my mom. I was glad we went. Not only did we have closure - but we had the opportunity to see so many of my family and family friends. Every conversation began with "It's good to see you - sorry about the circumstances...". Because of her disease, she wasn't really recognizable as the person she'd been for over 5 years. I expected to be sadder than I was. Her passing was actually a relief, both for my family and (I hope) for her. I hope that your situation will afford you the same opportunity to connect with your family.

Yay for your parents Betty! Going through the Canal was really cool. |
As far as I know my grandma made it through the night. They were going to install a feeding tube today. This isn't totally abnormal for her - she doesn't do well in hospitals or nursing homes, so they need to make her strong enough to go home, where she does eat.
Meanwhile, can I just say how evil nursing homes can be? They seem to have this idea that she's frail and disabled and should just die already. But see, she's stubborn. If she actually doesn't want to die, she won't. So make her more comfortable, dammit. Don't just decide a doctor doesn't need to see her because she's old and sick and will probably die. Especially when you made a big stink and involved a social worker who made waves and insisted grandma needed to go to a nursing home "to get the kind of care she needs" instead of going home, where my grandpa takes very good care of her. GRRRRRR!!!!!! Sorry - probably should have put that in the vent thread. |
