So, I couldn't care less about my dreams. I am more than skeptical that they carry much meaning, and even if they do, I find I don't really accept that anyone's found a reliable way to separate what might be meaningful from what is random background neuron-firing. So I don't really bother trying to remember them as I never really wake up thinking, "OMG, that dream meant so much to me!"
But today I made an effort to retain a dream I had this morning, simply because it was so ludicrously bland. It was all about me recounting to CP something I heard on This American Life. And it wasn't even some fascinating story I'd heard. It was a bit from the beginning or end of the podcast where they're letting the listeners know about upcoming shows/events. Yes sir, my amazing dream world of public radio scheduling! |
I don't know that they end up meaning much all the time - I just like that I lead another life in my mind when I sleep.
Although recurring dreams on the other hand may be a different story. I had ongoing dreams for awhile about the brakes in my car. I finally had to go get them checked out. They were fine. The dreams stopped. (so whatever that means.) Guess I was somehow worried about it? But I'd have dreams of going down a hill and not being able to stop. Or going off a cliff because I couldn't slow down on a mountain road. Or maybe it all does mean something in a big metaphor. |
I've had lots of dreams about really, really wanting to fly. Then I get up there, way high above buildings. Everything looks beautiful, I can see so much! And it is so great and super fun and then I realize, oh sh!t, how am I gonna get down without killing myself? Then it's just a panicky, out of control feeling.

Last night I had a strange dream. I hung a picture frame made of Kudzu wood (I don't think you can get wood from Kudzu, can you?) with no picture in it, just the frame, on an outdoor sign in a wet spot of Grizzly River Run, all the while wondering how well it would hold up in the constant wetness.
 |
Things that are meaningful to me:
I dream about my mother when I haven't talked to her in a while. I dream about people I know when I'm on the right track with my life, as opposed to dreaming about strangers when I'm out of touch with myself. The rest of the time it's just interesting. Frequently I can pick out elements which are random or are processing things I've seen recently. |
I tend to dream about alternative ways of handling recent situations. I also solve problems in my dreams.
Luckily, I have not have my recurrent nightmare, but since court is on the 5th, I am waiting for it. This may be why I don't want/can't sleep. |
Dream problem-solving: how cool!
Nightmares aren't so much fun, though. Hopefully those stay away. |
I generally don't remember my dreams.
|
I dream about sleeping
|
I dream about fire, mostly.
Some dude with a pitchfork shows up fairly often, too- telling me not to worry. |
