I'm so busy for Halloween weekend and the following days after. 10 days of party party party. I'm still trying to get through Oktoberfest!! My best friend is coming to town on the 28th and we're going to a Haunted Mansion/Club party, then Magic Mountain on the 29th & another Halloween club thing in LA, then I'm going to Oktoberfest on the 30th. On the 31st our office has a Halloween party and after work my coworkers are all going out. Then Wednesday is a friend's birthday party, Thursday another friend, Friday a going away party, saturday....UGH! I dont even want to think about it all!!! LOL

We're going to the Pumpkin Patch this weekend....we've been planning it for-ev-ah and things keep coming up, dammit.

Halloween weekend, we're going to a Harvest Party at Chloe's preschool on Friday, then on Saturday, we're going to a grown-up's party. Boogie Nights is the theme....no, not like 70's....more like porno-inspired costumes from Boogie Nights, the movie. Last year is was Pimps and Ho's. Ugh. I'm going as Tawny Kitaen.....of the Whitesnake video, crawling all over the car hood. Kelly's going as Will Ferrell dressed up like the guy from the Blue Oyster Cult skit on SNL with the cowbell or he's going as Cousin Eddie from the Vacation movies (more specifically Christmas Vacation, with the white sweater and black dickie and moose mug). All depends on if I can find a moose mug or a cowbell!

We're not really doing the right theme......but we don't care. Last year I went as a pimp, not the ho. ;)

On Halloween night, we're going to a little party at one of Cassidy's friend's house, then trick or treating with several families we know. Then to one of their houses for drinks and so the kids can compare candy.

The girls are going as:
Chloe...either Snow White, or Stitch or Minnie Mouse, hasn't decided.
Cassidy.....Darth Vader, again.
Courtney.....Elphaba from Wicked.

All are re-run ideas this year, guess we're out of originality, but this is what they want.....Cass has been DV before, Chloe was once Stitch, Courtney was once Snow White, Cass was once Minnie Mouse, and last year Cass was Elphaba.

I generally celebrate solo. I take a bottle of red wine onto my front step, a cauldron of candy for the five kids that show up, and my tarot cards. I drink in the atmosphere, I think about my ancestors, and at the end of the night I pull a full spread of cards for the coming year.

Post-Samhain, I buy next year's calendar and start transferring all the crap from the old to the new- people's birthdays, dates when things are due, phone numbers, etc. This is "dead" time, so to speak, until the new year starts with Yule.

I don't usually go to parties, in part because the husband won't go with me, and in part because I feel really lame about any costume choices available. We also don't generally find out about them until later.

So how's this for Sunday, the 30th? (all you Orange County and L.A. locals):

I'm thinkin' of checking out two haunted house fun thingies that I got turned onto thru, well, Disneyland:

 The first is near Knott's in Buena Park put on by a group called Phobia. We met these folks in New Orleans Square on Goth Day, and they talked a good talk about a fun haunted house thing they do every year. $2 admission, starting at 7pm that evening. I definitely got the impression that these folks knew how to do fun/scary.

;) The other is in Laguna Hills, and I got interested in it thru this thread on MiceChat. It's put on by a guy who uses the moniker "DisneyFreak" over there at M.C., and it's purportedly an absolutely amazing Haunted Mansion tribute that he started posting about over six months ago. Supposedly, he's done this for many years and has added a whole bunch of stuff this time. Seems worth checking out for sure.

Anyways, that's what I'm thinking of filling in Sunday evening with, if anyone would care to join me and Zapppop on our lead-in to 'Ween.

* * * * * * * **

Other than that, I've got the annual Nightmare Before Christmas screening at the El Cap on Thursday, two Halloween parties on Saturday night (ugh, as far away from each other as can be), I'm throwing my office's Halloween party on Monday the 31st, and then heading out to Hollywood Boulevard with some friends for the usual hijinks and weirdities that go on over there on Halloween night.

And on Tuesday, Day of the Dead, that's what I should feel like.

I'll undoubtedly be handing out tooth rotters to all the wee witches and goblins that make their way to my door in between bouts of creepy movies. With a bit of luck I'll get a few more than the half dozen that showed up last year, but gotta say that last kid made out like a bandit...which oddly enough is how he was dressed.

Anyone care to venture a guess how I'll be dressed? :P

That's like 3 minutes from my house! I'll be there.

It's a little further for me but I'm going! Thanks Innerspace!

I don't think anything could ever top that H'ween party ism did a couple years ago. I mean, ya just can't beat a half-burned-out psycho-house looking victorian with fog effects! And a rainy night to boot!

I haven't even made a costume (yet). I'm thinking of possibly going as a house (no, I'm not joking, I'll explain in a sec), or as Marie Antoinette, but my time for making a full-on detailed french queen dress with panniers is running painfully short. I could cop out and go as Amidala (if I can find the costume) or as Hermione Granger (again...)

The house thing I thought would be pretty funny because, of course, I work at a real estate company and we're having an office party. So I'd take a very large cardboard box, put a nice angled roof on it, and use one of the flaps at the bottom of the box to make a front yard with our company's for sale sign on it (obviously using string or some other supports to make the front yard stick out). Then, after Halloween, pop the house on to one of the empty desks in my cube and deck it out for Christmas. I thought that'd be pretty darn amusing.

I love the house idea! Very clever! :)

However..to take the costume from day to night, to sex up the costume for after-office fun, might I suggest you add a lockbox to your "house"? Preferrably locating it where..well, let's just say you should definitely put the "box" in lockbox.
