Questions, questions!

I want closure too! (<-Broken garage door, "closure", yuck yuck)

Mom-in-law offered to pay up, but on a fixed income it would mean her going without food for a couple of months. So we declined to accept. Instead I get to use it as political fodder for a few years. "What's that grandma? You don't like the way I clean house? Hey! Remember when you had my boy drive through the garage door?"....

Total cost: ~$750 (including removal of the old door and repairs to the opener)

Nothing inside was damaged, and the car had a few minor scratches. Once the boy figured out Grandma was taking the heat he realized he had a really cool story to tell his friends. "Hey I drove our car through a door, what did you do today?"

I'm unclear as to why she told him to drive it. Was she joking and he took it literally? Was it like, "Hey, kid, go drive your dad's car. He won't care."? Why on earth would she tell him that?

I'm still not exactly sure... I think what happend was that she could not get the steering wheel to unlock (You have to insert and turn the key for that)
She asked him to try and unlock it for her. He got in turned the key a bit too far.... wham-o. There are some unexplained issues, like you have to have the clutch pressed in order to start the car etc....

I think that kid's been taking the car out for a spin at night while you are sleeping!

Nah, then he'd know how NOT to plow through the garage door
