When I'm on the ship, I couldn't care less what it looks like from the outside. It's all about the luxurious experience on the inside.

I want a tall ship - Arrrrrrgg

Not Afraid 02-24-2006 04:33 PM

Ahhh, yes, A Tall ship would do me fine. My, she was yar.

If you don't what a ship to have the feel of a ship, why be on a ship? Why not just stay in a hotel if you want a hotel?

Don't give me tripe about ports o' call. They have hotels in ports o' call. You don't need to travel by sea to visit ports o' call, and you can only visit ports o' call if you travel by sea. Whether you want ports o' call or inland destinations, hotels are everywhere. So are restaurants, swimming pools, poor theater, and mediocre buffets.

NA~ I love the decor/style of the QM. I think the non window might freak me out. Even being cramped in a 10 X 10 room with 3 sisters, we had a window. That gave some relief.

Now, this suite sounds right up my alley...not up my bank account, though.

I love the ambiance that the old ship gives! I could so dig on dressing in era clothing and enjoying a swanky night at the club there. {keeping away from the little coffee shop...too modern, and not swanky}{why did the movie with the big wire that comes across and slices people up just come to my mind????:eek: }

I love the ride up to the Hearst Castle {well, at least from our trip some years ago} when they play music from the 20's on the bus ride up. If you let it, it will carry you back in time.

Until the kids cry out 'Ma, when do we get there???'

innerSpaceman 02-24-2006 08:19 PM

Ugh, one of the docents at Hearst Castle told me about events up there where everyone dresses in period costume. Sometimes the receptions are held at the (indoor) Neptune Pool [one of the most fascinatingly beautiful settings on earth, if ya ask me]. It's like monthly or quarterly or something. Pfffht, it was ultra-expensive, if I recall.

But even the day-tours of San Simeon are magnificent. Not as classicly deco swank as the ocean liner at Long Beach, but hedonistic swank of unparalled wealthy eccentricity that I'd love to check out again.

So when are the swankings to Queen Mary and Hearst Castle?

SacTown Chronic 02-24-2006 09:37 PM

I'm up for the Hearst Castle swanking.

Ooooo! Come on get happy!!! :D

I think the idea is totally awesome. I think we don't need to do the docent events anywhere because so many on here {too many to name} are great with costumes and party planning. Don't you think?

If a group gets together for the Castle, seriously, I can recommend a motel and hotel, the closest.

So, where would we find era themed clothing, Lisa? I know you know.

And I mean besides your closet. :D
