My thoughts exactly.

I am, though, kind of puzzled at the claims by some that this should end his career.

If you can rape a minor, escape to Europe pending trial, and still be hailed as a genius in exile then I don't see that holding anti-semitic beliefs (and apparently having done nothing much to act on them) should be an artistic disqualifier.

I also see a lot of people saing in vino veritas which can certainly be true but I also have seen a lot of drunk people who say things they obviously don't believe to be true and are just belligerently trying to piss people off. I have no idea if that is the case, but perhaps when he gets drunk he just starts channeling his father, my to his eternal embarrassment.

In the end, so long as he isn't actively trying to do harm to Jews then I don't really care if he is anti-semitic in thought (though I may not want to be friends with him, it doesn't otherwise affect me) and I am still looking forward to Apocolypto.

Besides, his rampant homophobia and mysogyny have long been part of the public record and if that isn't a disqualification then I don't see why this would be. I'm also surprised at the number of people that seem to think that "sugar tits" is some particularly vulgar term thought up by Gibson. It has a long and illustrious history.

My disgust at Mel has more to do with PotC than his drunken tirades. I saw the movie and did experience the anti-Jewishness that some have claimed (whether it's overt or not is a different discussion). I don't imagine that this episode will end his career or that he will be forced into exile a la Polanski (not that that's a fair comparison anyway). I just think it's funny when an a**hole like Gibson gets a little public humiliation.

note: I just attacked Mel for PotC. Please note that I was referring to Passion and not Pirates. Thank you.

I'm confused. Was he at a screening of it and you saw him...?

I was trying to figure out what he had to do the Pirates of the Caribbean. Then I figured it out.

I stopped liking Mel Gibson (after years of seeing every movie he made) when I read about his father's whack religion and Mel's apparent belief as well. Looks like he really does take after daddy- too bad. What an ass.

Ha ha. :D Okay, I feel dumb. I was picturing mousepod at a Pirates screening and Gibson spewing hate from the risers in front of the Rivers of America... lol! :D

When I worked in Burbank several years ago, I had heard from very reliable sources that he had a screw loose. A homophobe to be sure, sexist and an anti-Semite. He's proven all those to be true...
I really lost my taste for his films after 'Braveheart'. That prince was a horrible homophobic cartoon character. Then the king killing his lover for a laugh response from the audience was really really tasteless.

ABC pulls the plug on Gibson's Holocaust mini-series. Three cheers for the Mouse.
