And, when I'm mentoring at the Junior High out here, I already do feel really old. They understand none of the stuff I enjoyed when I was little

Just to tie all the threads together:

You know you're old when you don't recognize the names of the artists Weird Al is making fun of

The problem is, I don't recognise the names of the newer artists on his new albums!

From an email I got from Al (Ok, his people):

Dear Close, Personal Friend Of Al...

In case you haven't heard the good news... the wait is almost over.

The new "Weird Al" Yankovic album, Straight Outta Lynwood, will be in stores on September 26!

Straight Outta Lynwood features 12 of Weird Al's latest and greatest songs, including parodies of hits by Chamillionaire, Green Day, Usher, R. Kelly and Taylor Hicks!

It's also a DualDisc release, with the DVD side containing Enhanced Stereo, 5.1 Surround and instrumental mixes of the entire album (with an on-screen lyrics option)!

And as if that weren't enough... it also includes also a mini-documentary on the making of the album... plus 6 BRAND NEW MUSIC VIDEOS!"

Chamillionaire, Green Day, Usher, R. Kelly and Taylor Hicks? I know Taylor Hicks from TV and I heard of Usher, but not the rest. THAT makes me feel old.....

Wow..do you live in a cave? Chamillionaire sings Ridin' Dirty and Green Day sings a ton of popular songs (American Idiot, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Good Riddance, and more).

Green Day are the ones that sound about as punk as Mel Torme...

Um, yeah. That's what I said.

Sorry DF, neither the artist nor title of that song ring a bell. For most of the new pop artists I don't know the names anymore. I have to hear the song to say "oh, that one." The ones I do know are less mainstream.

As for Green Day - they've been around a long time. I was a teen myself when they first hit. RStar really is old. I think his earlier statement was a senior moment.

AND - I know who Mel Torme is ;)

Pretty much. I don't listen to a lot of radio. Though, if I hear the songs, I'd most likely recognise it, just not the songs name or the artist's name.
