I like most of what they did with POTC. I'm of the ilk who belives that Disneyland is not a museum.

Flame away.

We've been through this. None of us are anti-change. Most of us are anti-halfass change. Either do it right or don't do it at all.

I don't really see it as half-assed, either (thought that's subjective). My only complaint was that the Depp animatronics should be a bit more cartoonish to match the style of the other pirates, but I'm fine with the amount of integration and change.

I don't feel it was ruined, nor particularly augmented. Just different.

I don’t want it to be a museum either, but neither will I not remain quiet as the heart, soul, and magic of the place is torn away bit by bit. POTC told a story. That story has now been scrambled by the arbitrary inclusion of references and characters from movies that were only loosely based on the ride. The unified whole that the original designers worked so hard to create has been destroyed. It’s like sticking a High Victorian turret on a Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater.

I never understood the ideology that all change must be embraced. Not all change is for the good, and that which is not should be resisted vigorously.

Cadaverous Pallor 02-08-2007 09:25 PM

If the changes aren't taken out of the ride a full year after the third movie comes out on DVD, I'm going to start a full-scale complaint assault to get them removed. Call the papers, march on City Hall (every time I visit), emails, phone calls, letters.

I mean it. Who's with me?

innerSpaceman 02-08-2007 09:37 PM

I am.

The entire piece of resistance has been gutted and ruined. The creepy tunnel of ghostly pirate voices that blossoms magically onto a an impossbily indoor scene of an outdoor, nighttime pirate ship battle. (One that's really happening, as opposed to one with recognizable motion picture score blarring. One with a classic pirate captain who became one of Disneyland's most famous creations, as opposed to one with a mocking wax museum robot of a movie star).

I refuse to go back until there is once again a ball pit in Toontown.

(Actually, it is weird to think that I am actually coming up on 4 months since the last time I was inside a Disney park.)

MickeyLumbo 02-08-2007 10:03 PM

i refuse to go back until there is a parking lot up against the Main Gate ticket booths, Rocket Jets above a working People Mover, Circle Vision, Keel Boats, Kids of the Kingdom and no Annual Passes.

well, ok, i have to go tomorrow.

I'm just sayin.

Not Afraid 02-08-2007 10:09 PM

I'd personally vote for Adventures through Inner Space, Carousel of Progress, Rocket Jets - hell, all of Tomorrowland 1967.
