Heehee! Oh, I don't think it'll work. I'm sure after all the shaking is done, and I'm left with a floor full of smoking holes, terrified neighbors and destroyed furniture and belongings, I'll wish that I had just rode it out rather then, you know, "teach them shiftin' plates in the earth a lesson!"
Next stop: Shootin' them thunder clouds. :p Alphabassettgrrl: lotsa **hugs**, too! :) |
Every time I drive over the Ship Canal Bridge in the lower-deck express lanes I have to force myself not to panic. I'm convinced there's going to be an earthquake one day while I'm driving on the bridge.

Methinks Ally needs a doggie. Doggies inspect night noises and let us know the coast is clear :)
As far as the Northridge quake, I was seriously affected for a long time, years. You wouldn't think something so common as a quake could suddenly affect you differently, but, well I lived in Northridge at the time. That whole waking up on a jackhammer thing. And later that whole smelling gas thing. But the upside was the whole meeting your helpful neighbors thing. Anyway, aftershocks bugged the you-know-whatsis out of me for a couple years. But for some reason I have lost most of that "new" quake anxiety. At least, I think I have. I wonder though, if I'd feel the same if I still lived in the Valley? I think I'm less afraid of "The Big One" now though, because I remember them saying that being so far out in the desert, the damage to LA from The Big One would be like Northridge, only wider spread. So okay, made it through that... next! |
LOL Cheese Dude was all freakin last nite when the quake happened.
After being in the Northridge quake in Northridge a couple miles from the epicenter, last nite's was a widdle baby quake. Awwwwww. I was sort of like, whatever, and went to sleep. |
I don't like earthquakes and it makes me feel better to know I am not the only one who totally freaks out. I am getting better though. I am almost to the stage of "let's see how bad it gets". I think the last one I felt was the one in the ocean, during the day. I had about 5 IMs from all over OC asking if I felt "that" - trying to figure out where it was or something.

I would have gone right back to sleep if it wasn't for the horrible shattering glass sound...
I think I'll keep Pepe's head as a souvenir (it was the largest intact piece left - the rest of the thing exploded all across the kitchen floor) |

Yesterday, when I left work, I was so useless and sleepy. I couldn't focus. I went over to my boyfriend's, we ordered pizza, and after dinner, I passed out. I hadn't slept the night before! I woke up at quarter to two, and he was like, "why don't you please just spend the night with me? You need to sleep!" So I did. I never spend a weeknight away from home, but I couldn't bear the thought of another night without sleep. And he makes me feel so safe. :) Plus, I knew if I drove from Valencia to my house last night, in the middle of the night, down the scary dark road, surrounded by mountains, a quake would hit. A big one. Boulders would chase my car down the highway, until the earth opened up and swallowed me & my hoopty Lois Lane-style. No thank you! In case you think I'm a paranoid nut ball, please see my panic disorder posts above. You'll come to the conclusion that yes, I am still a ..paranoid nut ball. :p |
