Here's a report from the school drama director, sent to me last night just after the opening performance:
It ran (mostly) smoothly. Some funny ad-libbing and Lucy's bed collapsed at one point in 2-6, but they coped brilliantly and soon re-established the tension. We watched with growing pride and delight as it all came together. The audience were extremely impressed, and we seemed to achieve almost the right mix of suspense, hilarity and downright terror, which is wonderful for an opening night (still fine-tuning the lighting mix and getting enough blood flowing...). They are a talented cast - in particular, Renfield stole the show, and the boy playing Dracula (never been in a play before, let alone a leading role requiring such power and presence) came to tell me that it was the biggest rush he's ever had, and that he's hooked on acting!
It's been a huge challenge to rehearse, stage and polish such a complex script in just 10 weeks from start to finish, but we all just love it - thanks for such a fantastic script.
Pretty cool. I can't wait to see the photos/video.
