Hmm... that is just the opposite of Susan's experience. She said it was a breeze for her and didn't take any time at all.

Granted, that was 11 years ago, so things probably have changed.

I had to bring around a page from my divorce decree that said I was changing my name back to the maiden one. Some places wanted to see the officially stamped page, but I remember having to fax over proof of name change to others.

Was it easier changing it when you got married or when you got divorced?

This may be an argument in favor of staying married for silly reasons :D

Chris often gets called by my last name by people who know me professionally. I sometimes forget to introduce him by both his first and last names.

However, I LOVE getting calls for Mrs. Meinke. "I'm sorry, but she doesn't live here."

I don't mind being called Mrs. Moore, even though it's not my name. I like being reminded now and then that technically that could be my name if I chose it.

For me, its just a good way to tell if the person calling actually knows us or not. I've been LC for all of the 24 years we've been coupled. Its usually a unwelcome caller who calls me Mrs. Meinke.

I just have relatives who can't get it through their head (or don't want to) that I kept my name. (They don't do it in the midwest a lot, and a lot of them didn't understand why in heaven's name I kept Powers.)

But I can see how it'd be stellar for pre-emptively dumping telemarketers!

My mother would never intentionally violate a rule of etiquette, so all mail from her to both of us has each name on a separate line. The rest of my family, both sides, addresses mail to Him and Me Elkins.

I guess I should be happy they don't do Mr. and Mrs. Him Elkins.

At first, when I was with Ralphie, I thought it would be kinda cool to take his last name if we got married. And then I changed my mind. I like my last name. So if I ever get married, I'll keep my name. Although I do like the sound of Brad Gyllenhaal.
