Regardless of how it may eventually turn out, I really appreciate everyone's suggestions and/or work on this project of mine!

I wonder if it is another format and somebody just changed the extension in an effort to get it to work somewhere (I've run into that on video before). Since you've had trouble and the program Isaac recommended didn't work, I am starting to suspect that. Or the file might be corrupted just enough to cause problems.

He said he purchased it from iTunes, so it should definitely be an m4v

Ah... good point.

I've had a lot of trouble trying to convert or otherwise use .m4v's from iTunes before. In the end, the only way I was able to do it was through screen capture software. I used Snapz ProX, but there might be better as I didn't research it exhaustively. And I think Snapz might only be available for Mac.

What exactly is the movie you're trying to convert? Perhaps there's another version available...

The short film "Billy's Dad is a Fudge-Packer".

Streaming versions exist and I can easily save that to .flv, but I need something of higher quality because this is going to be displayed on a movie theater screen.

Ok, I'm trying again now that my computer is "authorized" by iTunes.

There's a codec that they add to their files. I'm trying to find a way around that codec. And, it's a bitch.

But, keep your fingers crossed!
