Our 2 doggies are remarkably similar to yours. A little appleheaded black and white one and a longer nosed reddish brown one. They even have the same ears with Rocky having floppy ears and Mousey with the big ones.

I'm going to have to dig out a photo now.

I dont even want to think about how badly I'd be shredded trying to get Chewy into that outfit.

Scruffy let us try to get him into a Build a Bear dress. He is just a tad too big around the chest. His butt didn't fit in the shorts either.

I really feel the need to get him some "cute" clothes.

Melonballer 02-02-2010 10:09 PM

Am I the only one who thinks this is sad? The dog seems mentally ill, or at least, is causing himself lots of awful undue anxiety. Poor thing :(

Capt Jack 03-22-2010 12:10 PM

can I agree and still think its funny?

bewitched 03-22-2010 01:43 PM

Some dogs have such high food aggression/protectiveness that anything they see out of the corner of their eye will set them off: a piece of paper rustling, wind blowing, etc.. I think it's more like the "what the hell is that?!" aspect that I would liken to a cat chasing its tail...

I do have to say that on further viewing, it kind of looks like maybe they are manipulating his leg with a string or something which puts me on the fence: he's not hurting himself, he appears well taken care of, it seems to be all in good fun (not mention that it is pretty damn funny), he got a yummy bone out of it (which in itself would probably make it worth it for most dogs) and is it really any worse than something like giving a cat catnip and laughing when they go nuts...but still.

Not Afraid 03-22-2010 05:37 PM

What the dog is doing is called Resource Guarding and it is in no way based in logic (and really hard to train out of this bad habit). Kimchi thinks Scoundrel wants her Bully Stick on occasion. Scoundrel has never even show and interest in a bully stick but she still get all defensive when Scoundrel get near.

Cadaverous Pallor 03-22-2010 08:23 PM

Even if it's natural it's still very sad that the poor animal is all stressed out.

Oh, and AWWW!

Not Afraid 07-05-2010 12:11 PM

The kitten was a drive-by disposal in the parking lot of the ER vet I was at (and happened to be in said parking lot). He's 5 weeks old and as sweet as can be. He's a black smoke (dark dark tabby with white undercoat). I'm going to care for him until he is old enough to be neutered then work with adoption to find him a home. His name - at the moment - is Salem.

No such thing.

A man in a bubble bath is looking to get some. Same category as a man who says "hey, let's go to the mall."

Otherwise they're simply a deviant, to be culled from the herd.

OOoohhhh!!! Love the baby dolphin!

Alex 11-12-2010 11:36 AM

Out of curiosity, does it change how cute that baby dolphin is when you learn it is dead?

Cadaverous Pallor 11-12-2010 12:29 PM

You're confusing your dolphins. This one is in Uruguay and is alive, as far as I can see. The sad story you're referencing is from Florida (and I really don't want to read more about it).

Alex 11-12-2010 01:44 PM

Didn't know there was a real dead dolphin story out there. My comment was meant as hypothetical.

Triggered by a demonstration one of user interaction anthropologists did here the other day involving people rating the cuteness of a kitten picture when they thought it was a live kitten vs. the exact same picture of a kitten when they had reason to think it was taxidermied.

alphabassettgrrl 11-12-2010 03:49 PM

I was assuming that the critters in all the pictures were alive. Taxidermied critters make me a little sad and that takes away some cuteness points.

Cadaverous Pallor 11-12-2010 04:40 PM

Don't tell me - people don't think dead things are cute, right? Did they publish the result in that most auspicious of scientific journals, "Duh Magazine"?

Alex 11-12-2010 06:42 PM

No, that wasn't the point of the demonstration. But that said, if you can't tell something is dead, why is it less cute just because you've been made to think it might be?

Anyway, sorry for letting loose the meandering non sequitur.

Kevy Baby 11-12-2010 06:46 PM

alphabassettgrrl 11-12-2010 07:19 PM

Because until you plant the suggestion that it's taxidermied, it doesn't occur to me. But once said, it can't be unsaid, and now the cuteness is somewhat tainted.

Cadaverous Pallor 11-12-2010 08:39 PM

The dolphin pic in question actually does have a tinge of sadness. "Nipper" was two weeks old when he was found on a beach. He had marks from what seems to be net entanglement. His mother was nowhere to be found.

He's fine and will be nursed until he can be freed. Cute, but sad. :(

Will a cat use one of those kitty toilet bins without training? If so, I want. (if it will require months of trying to teach a 9 year old and 15 year old cat new tricks, I'll just stick with the old school boxes.)

Not Afraid 01-21-2011 12:12 AM

mousepod 01-21-2011 07:14 AM

Yes. There is plenty of room in your house for a few polar bears.

Alex 01-21-2011 09:40 AM

I'm going to have to say that two extra fingers gives the panda an advantage.

Also, its ability to wave in a friendly manner will put the polar bear off its guard before getting sucker punched.

Mousey Girl 01-21-2011 03:04 PM

The Boy said. "awww, polar bear."

Morrigoon 01-21-2011 03:11 PM

I'll grant the panda the personality shot, but for pure cuteness factor, it's gotta be the polar bear. IT'S A POLAR BEAR!

JWBear 01-21-2011 03:43 PM

Sorry. The polar bear one is not real.

Ghoulish Delight 01-21-2011 03:47 PM

I might be adopting this little guy over the weekend:

alphabassettgrrl 02-09-2011 07:44 PM

He's cute!

Disneyphile 02-10-2011 02:13 AM

Well, after more inquiry, he's very cute, but dwarf hamsters are also highly territorial and known to bite often, and get much worse if you don't constantly hold them. So, he's not the best option for our home.

alphabassettgrrl 02-10-2011 09:47 AM

Oh. Yeah, skip the biting business. I hope he finds a good home where they can give him the handling he needs.

Not Afraid 02-10-2011 10:38 PM

There was a black and white large Dutch bunny running about our neighborhood yesterday. It's being fostered by a neighbor who is trying to fine a permanent house bunny situation for him. I guess she is quite the escape artist. I joined in the attempt to catch her and she disappeared - like magic.
