This got me to reading about Meryl Streep and her relationship with John Cazale, which eventually got me to reading about Godfather II, where I saw the name G.D. Spradlin. "Huh, haven't thought about him in years. I wonder if he's still alive, I don't remember him dying." Turned out he was. Now, he's not.

Yeah, one of those great character actors one recognizes as soon as he shows up on screen. "Oh, it's that guy!" These sort of rough, careworn everyday types are a vanished breed in movies. Character actors these days aren't allowed to be much more than 36, and only marginally less attractive than their co-stars. Oh, and it helps if they're "wacky." (Too bad, because I'm 46 and getting more and more "character" by the day!) |
