I hope we get a Jack update soon. :)

Jack's doing well. They are flushing out his system and it seems to be getting rid of the crystals. I'm trying to decide if I should visit him or not. Sometimes cats get too upset when they see their mommy and pull out the IV and catheter - which means they's just have to sedate him to put it back in. I think I'll just wait until he comes home tomorrow.

He's such a big loving presence in our house and there's a big bap with Jack gone.

So...I am not working this week (yet). I have somehow managed to get myself talked into taking Nickolas to see The Ant Bully in about an hour. I also have a housefull of little boys (ok, only 2 extra) who want to go as well. I told them they could, as long as they can pay for themselves and their dad says it's ok. *sigh* I really wanted to get some shopping done while I am out...

one of the cats we had a number of years back was a cronic crystal former. after doing the prescription food and such for a few months we were told to try the science diet dry for older cats. that combined with the distilled water...never another incident.

mi dos centavos and sympathies. leaky cats aren't much fun (catheter). non-leaky cats, even less so.

So, there was only one "must be shredded" thing in my mail today, which is good.

I got a "sample quote" (um...yeah, that's informative) for auto insurance. The agent's first name is "Madonna." I'm thinking of putting her business card in my desk drawer so that I can be amused by this a second time whenever I get around to cleaning out the desk.

I had a problem with my cats. Then I found the answer. You may not believe this.

It was the Arm and Hammer cat box deodorizer. You know, the stuff you sprinkle into the cat litter? It's made with baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate. It has a high pH, and when the cats use the litter box, then lick their paws (I know, ewwww!) they ingest enough to spike their urine to a higher pH. I stopped using it and the problem completely went away!

I can't believe they can sell that stuff! Do you use it, or cat litter with Arm & Hammer in it? Some people even sprinkle Baking Soda in the litter box (as directed on the A&H box!).

Good luck with the kitties. I hate it when the pets don't feel well......

OK, This is the next thing I'm going to investigate. I'm wondering how inclusive the cat litter packaging is.

So all day yesterday and today I was thinking that my allergy medicine wasn't working. Now I realize that I have a little cold. I feel congested and tired. Bleh!

For some unknown reason, I've got the song "Don't Whiz On The Electric Fence" stuck in my head.

Gemini Cricket 08-14-2006 03:24 PM

Talk about random, I had the 'Hail to the Princess Aurora' song in my head. It's the song they sang at the beginning of 'Sleeping Beauty'. I haven't seen that film in ages!
:D

"Hail to the king, hail to the queen, hail to the Princess Aurora..."

So, I've just spent the last 45 minutes investigating cat litter. It seems any clay litter with odor control has ingredients that will skew the PH balance if ingested. Most of these products are made for the ease for humans. Cat's don't care if their litter clumps, humans do.

I also found that both the silica and clay cat litters can cause upper respitory problems with cats as well. We've had our share of colds lately.

I'm starting to piece this stuff together and wonder if much of the sickness has been caused or contributed to by the cat litter we've recently been using. The timing sure seems to be approximate.
