Indeed - waiting on some clarity on that

So.

Coachella sold out. Their f'd up ticket concept apparently did exactly what they wanted it to do.

It's entirely possible that they lowered the amount of tickets available. Thing is, Coachella is a bellweather for the coming events for the summer and everyone sees this as a huge thumbs up, especially in these economic times. The idea that everyone is going to point at a lowered maximum as being sold out would be sucky.

I'm not sure what to believe. In any case, GoldenVoice looks like geniuses and we're still not able to go because of it.

However, I didn't come here for the whiny recap, I came to post this.

The Coachella Crane

A friend of ours did the lighting design. He has the flu so he might not even get to see it in the desert. Seems like an unlucky year all around.

Wow, that's gloriously beautiful.

Word on the "street" is that day tickets will be available at the gate, as always. Of course, you'd have to drive out there to find out if it's true. But some folks will, and then you'll know for next year.

if there IS a next year.

If they hadn't sold out, I might think there were one day passes hidden somewhere, but since this is big news, I don't think so. Could be wrong, of course.

Yeah, there is definitely next year.

I had considered the option of driving out and gambling. Worst case would be spending a day shopping in Palm Springs, which ain't a bad consolation prize. But eh, there was too much risk of having to sit in a huge line of cars for an hour without getting a reliable answer one way or another, only to finally get close enough to learn you were boned. No amount of swanky furniture that I can't afford makes that less frustrating (although I suppose we would have had the excuse to blow the $200+ dollars we would have spent on tickets and food).

I am pretty supremely bummed that I actually know someone who worked on one of the big installations and won't get to see it. CP and I agree, we're going to try to keep our eye on the coverage through the weekend. It'll be bittersweet, but I'd like to have some insight into how it goes, plus I'm really curious as to how well it gets covered. With the many outlets, between artists I follow on twitter, facebook fan pages, official webcasts, and searchable social media, I expect to be able to keep pretty decently abreast. Kinda makes me wish I'd studied set times.

I have TWO clients going while I stay and home and watch their dogs. At least I'm making money and not spending it.

The website clearly states they will not be selling tickets at the gate - now I'm sure there will be scalpers as always but it's still a big crap shoot.

And it would still be 3 day tickets. Even at scalper prices, it'd be more than I'd like to spend while being able to attend only one day. Bleh.

Wouldn't scalper prices be higher than face, since it sold out?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on the demand.
