I'm gonna have to withdraw my attendance from such a wonderful event. Sorry, guys :(

Morrigoon 06-18-2010 11:06 PM

Sorry I couldn't make it, but didn't get out of the office till 6:30 and have to be at Disney at 10am, so once I accounted for Friday night drive time, I just couldn't make it work

In the end, the crowd was smaller than anticipated, but still an awful lot of fun. iSm, LSPE, and Tom joined us for 'Breaking Glass' (with a 10 minute appearance by Savannah). The group dwindled to 3 for an amazing HD print of 'Quadrophenia', and when Heather went to bed, it was just me and iSm for 'Lisztomania'.

There are about 15 or so slices of pizza in the fridge, but I'm sure they'll be consumed over the weekend.

I'm really looking forward to hearing what Steve thought about Lisztomania, now that he's had a night to sleep on it.

(And before I start another thread - July 4 is most certainly on at Casa Chihuahua)

innerSpaceman 06-19-2010 08:39 AM

Well, it was a nice private screening! Hahaha.

Wow, Lisztomania was not what I expected. I rather liked it, and it was bizarre in surprising ways. I think I'll have to see it again when I'm more awake, but it was far-out enough to keep me interested till 2 in the morning. A couple of great cameos, too.

Terrific print of Quadrophenia that the mousepod downloaded from the internet a couple of days ago. Really looked better than DVD quality.

I didn't dig Breaking Glass as much as my host and hostess did back in the day. Perhaps I needed to see it in its own time period to grow nearly as fond. I'm simply astounded the American version cut out the entire ending. The movie would simply make no sense. Oh, and wow - did the later-released TRON ever completely rip off the penultimate (American finale) scene of this movie.

Phil Daniels starred in both Breaking Glass and Quadrophenia, but I found him a much better performer in the earlier Who-based piece. In fact, since nothing much really happens in Quadrophenia, it's his performance that sells the piece.

Anyway, I think the Who made a wise move in shifting film style from Tommy to Quadrophenia, and Ken Russel made a wise move in following up Tommy with the more free-flowing Lisztomania.

Oh, sorry I didn't expound more on Lisztomania there, mousepod. I'm still mulling it over. But I hope it will please you that it figured heavily in my weird dreams last night, and I've been reading all about the real Franz Liszt on the internet this morning. ;)

Franz Liszt Franz Liszt Franz Liszt Franz Liszt Franz Liszt.

Did anyone have trouble "translating" the dialog in Quadraphenia? I remember wishing they included subtitles like they do with "The Harder They Come". Or maybe I was just drunk.

innerSpaceman 06-20-2010 07:04 PM

Um, yes, there were a number of scenes where I would have appreciated subtitles.

Hahahaha, I'm going to chant FranzLiszt FranzLiszt FranzLiszt at the next few concerts I go to!

Reviving the thread.

We're not going to be around on Saturday (tomorrow is Heather's birthday), but we'll be hanging out and trying unwind on Sunday.

If anyone wants to join us, we'll be having a Casa Chihuahua Movie Night© at around 4:00 pm.

Movie hasn't been selected yet. But we will have cola and popcorn...

Snowflake 08-05-2010 04:01 PM

When you screen Double Indemnity, I'll try to schedule a trip!

All the movie fun is in LA these days.

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 08-05-2010 04:17 PM

J, I think we'll be able to make it. Will keep you posted.
