I knew it.

Catch the previews for next weeks episode? Jin was speaking some mighty clear English. I have had suspicions that he speaks English as well, ever since he and Sun parted ways in the cave after it was revealed to him the she spoke English. He was leaving, and she yelled "I was going to leave you!". He stopped in his tracks and had a reaction that suggested he knew what she was saying.

Anyway.....

Is it real, or an experiment? I would suspect there will be a time during the season when we will have the opportunity to watch the countdown expire.

One thing I caught on the film they watched, and I'll check it out on the tape. The film was talking about the 6 locations, and said that this, location three, was put here because of the strong magnetic fields on "this part of the island". Now, why not just say "this island"? I infer from this that all 6 of the locations (assuming they all really exist) are on the island.

I tend to doubt it is some fake experiment. The construction necessary on that location would imply it is real, or at least that it was formerly some secret military facility. I doubt that a psych experiment could afford such an expense as the construction, and if it were a secret military facility, that some psych experiment could be staged there due to classified status.

Love this show. I just realized, however, that next week I will be driving to Anaheim with my kids. I will of course set it up to record, but will not be able to watch it until the following Monday night. Sigh.

I caught that as well. Someone on MiceChat suggested that it could just be something he picked up on the island, but I don't think so. His speech was very clear and articulate and he looked clean and healthy and appeared to be sitting in a room somewhere. I'm thinking flashback and a big secret on his part. A big piss-off-Jazzman kind of secret. I hope that his wife b!+(h slaps him if he does.

Or, possibly, Jin is speaking English in someone else's dream/hallucination. My first thought was, why would they put THAT in a preview, unless it was a throw-away.

Can I make a request? I avoid the trailers and commercials for the next week's show, so do y'all mind using spoiler tags for that?

scaeagles 10-06-2005 08:33 AM

My apologies. I thought that once something had aired on TV - as in previews for the next show, promo ads, etc, not anything on like an "Entertainment Tonight" - it was fair game for discussion.

Ghoulish Delight 10-06-2005 08:36 AM

No worries. Do what you will, just a request.

Spoiler:
My guess, it's a dream or he's been using the little helper book his wife gave him before he got on the raft.

LOST

If the next episode begins again with Jack saying Locke being held at gun point and Jack saying, "All roads lead to *this*?" I'm going to crack some skulls. Put it in the "Last week on LOST," writers. That's what those are FOR. I hate when they spoils perfectly good episode time reshowing the same damn scene over and over again, even if its setting up a different chracter's POV.

So, Jin excapes from a rabid band of cannibal "Otters" only to be immediately recaptured. Are they otters, the Others, OR...other survivors? My betting hand is on the last. At first I suspected a sort of Lord of the Rings set-up. Jack's band of survivors are the more civilized, including their own version of Piggy (Hurley). Michelle Rodriguez's (character name?) band of survivors are the ones who go primal. But on second thought, maybe they've had a much rougher time of it since the crash. Maybe they didn't have any medical supplies. Or a doctor on hand. Perhaps they've been attacked by the Others, etc. They're certianly more defensive and untrusting, so I'm thinking they've got good reason to be on their guard.

I was disappointed in the orientation film. They couldn't make it look a little older? Or believable? The music was really jarring. They couldn't find something more generic and 70s? The psychic stuff was neat, though, 'cause it explains someone like Walt, or the weird mystical stuff (like all the passenger's strange personal connections to one another; for example, Jack's wife killing Shannon's father in that car crash).

Jack is quickly becoming a favorite character on the show. I liked his breakdown, which I took to be his final acceptance that there is definitely something otherworldly going on that cannot really be explained, but it's happening all the same. It's not just coincidence.

Desmond running off to be by himself, when he's BEEN by himself for 3 years makes NO sense to me unless he really is working for Dharma (stupid name) and his story about randomly winding up there is bunk. I think it may be bunk. Otherwise, wouldn't he be craving the company. He was shown as being an affable conversationalist in his "previous life", so why wouldn't he want to stay with other people? Unless he's EVIL!

Gah. GAH! Not sure how I feel about this new development but it's only episode 3. For now, I'll just be happy that they'll get to shower. And, apparently, steal food. Hurley!

I gotta figure they are other survivors. Ana Lucia was on the plane. I would suspect that they have encountered "the others" and are therefore very suspicious of anyone they meet. And she is obviously with the people who are holding Jin, Sawyer, and Mike.

As far as Desmond running off....it made total sense to me. For at least three years he's been in that...bunker?...entering the numbers to stop a countdown that he obviously believes is necessary to continuing his survival and perhaps the survival of the world. When he thought the computer was destroyed, survival instincts kicked in and he wanted to get as far away from it as possible. I would suspect that he'll be back after a few days (island days) when he realizes that the island has not exploded. Of course, if he believes it to be something biological (he keeps injecting himself with something and took all of it with him), he may stay away longer.

Not really spoilery, but in consideration of GD's request:
Spoiler:

If it was the little helper book, understanding he only got it a couple days earlier, he sure did pick up on it fast. A dream would be a dramatic device that they haven't used yet, and I suppose they could introduce it, but everything they've shown about the survivors has been real to the character thus far in the show. I am more inclined to think it is a flashback and that he has known English this whole time.
