Does anyone know at what point in production Toy Story II went from bound-for-video to a theatrical release?

I'm amazed at the popularity of this film. It's got its laughs and moments, but the story is purely sequeldom episode. Bleh. If it were a straight-to-video product that got shunted to theaters once it was completely in the can, I would hardly be surprised. But I'm curious to know the score on that.

I don't know the answer to your question, but TS2 was the first movie Nickolas ever saw in a theater. He was 3 and I sat throught the movie while on doped up on painkillers.

My Pixar friend said the film was, and I quote, "entertaining." I'm attempting to wheedle more info out of her. She's not the effusive type, though, so that's about as good as praise as she gives.
