I sleep around quite a bit. The result is that I get to try out quite a few types of beds. My next bed will be a Temperpedic or something akin to that. I have never woken up feeling so great as I have in that bed.

I have a sleep number bed. I am not deeply in love with it anymore- but I still feel it was worth it.

I say take a favorite friend with benefits and go from store-to-store trying out different mattresses to find which one works best for you.

I bought my bed last year from Sit N Sleep and I was happy with the experience. I knew someone who'd bought a bed at the same place and was happy and I was not in the mood to shop around. They delivered the bed the next day and took away the disgusting old one (it was more than 20 years old and was not meant to last half that long) and that was worth a lot to me. I got some sort of combination of inner spring topped with memory foam and I love it. Since then I've spent quite a bit on new bedding because my old sheets didn't fit and this bed simply deserves better.

As far as mattresses go, the firmer the better. I, too, go to a mattress store or department store and ask for the firmest mattress they have.
Then again, I slept fine during the camping trip with just a sleeping bag and 2 thin pads under me.
I also like futons, I sleep very well on them.

I bought a bed!

I was going to go back to SnS and buy the bed that I picked out for my friend. When I called to see if they had it in stock (friend gave me the name and model number) I found out they no longer carry *that bed*. Also, they acted like I was making stuff up and was wrong about where it was purchased.

After a recommendation from another friend I went to Leeds, where I'm pretty sure I bought the same bed (I found a site that tells you what to compare within the same brand of mattress to get the nearly identical model). The sales guy wasn't pushy, I knew what I was looking for between two brands. Leeds negotiated too, so I got it for less than the one at SnS.

It will be here Friday!

Now I get to buy new bedding. Yay!

Yay!!! New sheets are nice. And you don't want to put old sheets on a new bed. :) Be comfy in your new bed!
