all else is secondary and seems to set its own priority through demand of time, funding, patience, endurance and understanding....or the lack thereof of any or all of those.

Wow, Jen. That's tough. To answer your question, I'd have to say that 1) you love them and you don't want to hurt them, and 2) if they love you they will accept you for who you are. My heart goes out to you for the struggle and tugging going on in your heart.
