Star Wars Dance-off

Here is the first part and I simply cannot believe that this is done officially. To me it looks like something the cast members would do after hours, put on youtube and get in trouble for.

Awful.

I meant to post this months ago but here finally are two performances from the Camp Hollywood Jitterbug Championships back in August. I wasn't at Camp Hollywood but I did get to see both groups do practice performances a few weeks ahead of time.

This is the first place performance, the One2Swing Jitterbugs. The music in the first half is "All the Cats Join In" and the choreography pays homage to the Disney cartoon.

This is the second place performance, the One2Swing California Rolls. Each group has the same choreographers (Ben and Sheri Yau, thus the One2Swing in each name) and I think the choreography for this one is amazing. It's original and fits the music so well.

Spoiler:
One day, back when my brother was still an infant, he was propped up in the corner of our sectional sofa. I was sitting a few feet away from him and just happened to glance over as a six-inch high diarrhea fountain erupted out of the side of his diaper. He was laughing & smiling the whole time. I was so relieved my mom was home at the time so I didn't have to clean that up!

All the baby books, advice sites, and reviews of diapers mention this type of thing. The word often used to describe it, even in serious context, is "explosion". They don't happen all the time but they do happen. It may not be as hilariously catastrophic as the commercial but it's real, and there isn't a product out there that can stop it from making a mess. Guess I should import some of those Aussie nappies....:D

Don't read me wrong here, I'm not like mad or anything. Just curious, JW. :)

Apparently, she recently got flack from Bill O'Reilly on Fox "News" for releasing this version of the song as part of his stupid War on Christmas thing. There's another reason why I continue to support her.

Anyway, there's a free download of the song on her official website. I downloaded it and added it to my 2 CD Xmas set that I'm giving out to my theatre folk here in HI.

Oh my, I freeking have to watch all of these when I have the time.... best part so far in part 1, is where he talks about the protagonist often getting the girl at the end as "icing on the cake" and showing a split screen of various movies as examples, one of which is... I thoroughly enjoyed the critique, but I found the voice characterization grating, and I really disliked the "I killed my wife and keep women chained in the basement" subplot. I wasn't offended by it, I just found it an unwelcome distraction, and not really a type of humor I get anything out of. (It also disqualifies this otherwise smart video from being watched by some friends of mine who are much more sensitive to this sort of thing than even I am.)

flippyshark 12-27-2009 11:08 PM

Watching this did remind me of the rather amazing "behind the scenes" doc on the Phantom Menace DVD, from which several clips were presented. One that he briefly shows but does not mention anything about - Lucas is seen auditioning a few boys for the part of Anakin, and it's finally down to two, Jake Lloyd and another young man who is noticeably much, much better. We see the historic moment when George makes his unfortunate casting decision, and, as I recall, someone, possibly Rick Berman, asks him is he's sure, and he sort of hesitates and then says, basically, "I've got a good feeling about this kid." Ay-yi-yi.

The YouTube video does present what was by far the most fascinating moment of the documentary, in which we see Lucas and Co. after screening a rough cut, and it's clear that even George recognizes that the movie is less than great. He immediately begins to talk himself out of trying to fix it and makes with the justifications, but it's obvious that he's aware of at least some of the many many flaws, and so is his creative team. This doc was far more interesting than the film itself.

Having never rented nor purchased the DVD I had no idea this doc existed...and I can't believe it made it onto the DVD with all the fracture marks intact.

Full disclosure - I never rented or bought the thing because I saw it in the theater 6 times. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it was due to the saber duels and podrace, and that I was really stoked to have a new SW film. The Empire already has my money...

I still love the saber duels even though I totally grok what the review said about them being pointless, especially in comparison to the OT duels. In my defense, I didn't even enjoy the duels in the 2nd and 3rd episodes...

Oswalt kicks ass. We got to see him live and he killed. There's an awesome comedy scene happening right now...Brian Posehn, Doug Benson, Maria Bamford, Paul F Tompkins...

Ghoulish Delight 12-28-2009 06:53 PM

A pretty good birthday for this guy.

Pretty good. I mean, it's not like he got the $500 for getting the exact $ amount on the item up for bids, nor did he get both showcases by being with $1000 on his bid. But I guess a scooter, 2 cars, and $26,000 isn't too bad.

It must be the end of the year cause it is time for another JibJab Year in Review Video. This year's video is set to "The Maple Leaf Rag" and is another classic. What I really like about JibJab is that they do these things from the ideological center and make fun of everybody.

Cadaverous Pallor 12-29-2009 11:25 AM

I love that they mentioned the three wolves howling at the moon. :D

a GREAT example of why you should always wear safety goggles in a factory environment. (Might not be safe for the squeamish, but pretty funny for sick people like me)

Frikitiki 01-02-2010 10:10 PM

I attended a vocational high school. The first day of freshmen orientation they showed a film about wearing safety goggles. The guy was grinding metal and a piece flew into his eye. They showed the actual surgery removing the metal fragment that was about the size of a q-tip head. It freaked out most people and convinced them to make sure they wore their goggles.

I don't like soda, don't want caffeine, so I won't be drinking Dew. But I do love me some geye candy!

I don't need content if they give me hotness. I just said it was my favorite, I didn't say it was high quality art. :)

Since I don't come in here often, I apologize if this might have been posted previously (though I doubt it).

Not for the squeamish: video of a guy who got his arm stuck in a printing press.

I will say that, despite what you see in this video, this guy was very lucky. Usually in an incident like this, one loses either his arm or his life. Recently, here in the LA area, in a similar incident (on a more modern and much faster press), a press operator got his arm stuck in a press in a similar fashion and

Spoiler:
Don't read this unless you have a strong stomach
Spoiler:
Had the skin peeled off his arm
In the video, the press is a much older machine (I am guessing at least 30+ years) without today's modern safety guards.

I actually got my hand stuck in a press (albeit, a much smaller one) 25+ years ago. Thankfully, my hand was enough to seize the press, but it did split the skin on my hand and break a finger. The guy who pulled me out of the press had actually lost a finger to the same machine a couple of years before my accident. When he went to hand-turn the press to pull me out, he accidentally turned the wheel the wrong direction and started to pull me in further. Needless to say, he didn't get very far :D

As a metal shop teacher once instructed us, "Don't put your arm anywhere you wouldn't put your dick"

Ghoulish Delight 04-27-2010 03:43 PM

Knowing Kevy, that's not very good advice.

As I haven't posted much lately, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not.

There is some great time-lapse footage of Disneyland being built on YouTube. It's called Building Walt's Dream, and is hosted by Tony Baxter. Here's a link to part one of five.

Assuming, of course, that there are still a few Disney geeks around these parts. :)

Not really work safe. I think it's borderline, but I know it'll cross it for many folk.

This happens to me all the time - the vast majority of SNL sketches are not online.

The sketch was called "Their Eyes Were On Their Breasts!". Kirstie Alley.

If you have a fast Internet connection, or a lot of patience:

Take a look at this.

I'll have to try this at home, here at work I'm not seeing much difference between 1080 and 4k
