Yep. I think it's nearly a crime to leave Vegas without contributing to the strippers. :)

I'm watching the continued collapse of the Dallas Cowboys.

My camera (Canon PowerShot S2 IS) decided to commit suicide this morning at Disneyland. Turn it on: black screen. View saved images: no problem. Switch back to live: black screen. Nothing I can do will make the live image come back, and a cursory search of the internets suggest this is a problem that tends to show up on PowerShots six to eight months after the warranty expires -- though apparently with enough bitching it's possible to get Canon to fix it anyway.

So why is this here instead of the vent thread? Because since we're on vacation and I need a camera, we went down to the Costco in Garden Grove and I picked up a new Nikon D60 with two lenses. It's the first DSLR I have owned and I look forward to figuring out how to use it.

(This bears eerie similarities to my MacBook Pro purchase last July...)

Congratulations on your new camera! I think the D60 is the one my friend has. She *loves* it.

Congratulations, and make sure you check out Nikon's Digitutor - an excellent series of videos that are a great starting point for learning your camera.

I know you did, but I am dying to ask if you took the lens cap off.

It's not a stupid question because I'm sure I would have done it if the design of the camera didn't make it pretty much impossible -- when you turn it on in camera mode, the lens extends and basically pops the lens cover off all by itself (so it's a good idea to use the lens cover tie).

Thanks, I will do that. The kit also came with two DVDs purporting to show me how to use it. I spent the afternoon back at the park just shooting in "auto" mode and boy, is this a nice camera.

It sounds like we have the same taste. Mine is eclectic hand-me-downs from the Old People and some newer things. I have a marble coffee table that is older than I am, I grew up with it. I was finally able to get rid of the 9' sofa when The Old People gave me their old couch. The sofa was neat, though. There are pictures of me as a baby in my grandfather's arms. I have pictures of The Boy as a baby in my dad's arms. Both were taken on that sofa.
