Damn, this thread is loseriffic to the 20th power :)

figment1986 04-12-2008 12:53 PM

I love how I'm spending all last night updating my moms computer... she never does anything! and it still has 2 glitches i asked her to get my dads friend to look at... its been over a year now!

Also updating virus protocols on my lappy... then moving files onto CDs and such...

Soo much work to get this ready for the cruise..

Ghoulish Delight 04-12-2008 01:09 PM

At risk of being pedantic, that'd be multiplied by 20, not to the 20th power. At this rate, it would literally take millennia to reach 1,000^20 posts.

Not Afraid 04-12-2008 02:38 PM

Well, so far I've oly had minor injuries that won't prevent me from playing MA, but I'll keep trying.

Pffft. Semantics.

Besides, we're talking loserdom here. I think it can be exponential ;)

frodo potter 04-12-2008 04:43 PM

Yea

Finally done with all tax stuff and two days early I might add.

a real feather in my cap what with the being proactive.

Also I "served" my jury duty last week. I was a phone in juror I was going to call and get it postponed because of T's mom and my having no time off left but I had a high group number so I decided to roll the dice.:)

blueerica 04-12-2008 04:53 PM

Woot! I just finished up all my tax stuff, too. Things will be tight for me, personally, but all will be well. (Other half doing well... hate him.)

Now... time to go watch some random movie and enjoy the rest of this weekend.

Oh, and I will be out in California for about a week instead of the half-a-week I'd estimated earlier - Sooo... I will have a lot of people to see. I'm so excited!

Signed,

Missing her Cali friends

CoasterMatt 04-12-2008 07:32 PM

I'm having fun in Vegas - I just saw an AWESOME pedestrian/taxicab incident that ended with a cabbie and pedestrian both in cuffs, and a K9 officer helped, too.

Mousey Girl 04-12-2008 09:09 PM

Today was a very nice day. Nickolas did seem to get a bit bored towards the end of the tour, but asked if we could go back to take a different tour. After Hearst, we ended up in Cayucous. We got there when the tide was just coming back in. He played with hermit crabs in the tidal pools and then had a blast playing in the waves. We ended our day with a late lunch/early dinner in Morro Bay. He then surprised me by NOT sleeping on the ride home and did his best to drive me insane. Traffic wasn't too bad, although we did watch a few people trying to show us why Highway 46 is also known as Blood Alley.

Morro Bay amuses me. When we got there it was around 2pm. There was very little parking to be had. When we left around 3:30 there was parking everywhere. That town really does roll up their sidewalks by the late afternoon.

The weather was wonderful. The entire day was exactly what I needed.

Still have taxes to do, and I need to remember to call in for Jury Duty tomorrow to see if I serve on Monday

Stress: the emotion that results from not kicking the ever-lovin cr@p out of someone who sorely deserves it.

In other news... the park was busy tonight.

alphabassettgrrl 04-13-2008 01:05 AM

I have now tried limoncello. It's interesting. Spent the evening lounging on a friend's bed watching "Ruthless People" with glasses of the aforementioned limoncello and laughing our asses off with a short break for hot tubbing.

It's a good way to spend the evening. I highly recommend it. The only blight was another friend couldn't be there cuz her hubby had to be airlifted off the mountain bike trails and they spent 5 hours in UCLA's E/R. She cancelled the ride she had intended to lead tomorrow but asked if I am interested in leading some beginner level rides. There's another guy she's asking as well, but if there's a couple of us that'd be fine.

I'd be a Somebody! :)

I had a similar day- very busy, and I wanted to beat my head against a concrete floor in frustration after dealing with a very high-maintenance client that I am about to fire. She's a friend, or was, but she stresses me out more than words can say as a client and I think today I finally hit the wall. Here's a small example of our conversation:

Me: You want a change of color, but you keep changing your mind about what color. First it's auburn, then strawberry blonde, then that's too red and maybe it's golden tones that you're thinking of.....I need some guidance here. Clip out some pics and bring them in to me so I can get an idea of what your trying to verbalize.

Client/friend: Well, maybe you could pick out some colors for me and tell me what I want.

Me: We tried that on Thursday, for two hours. Myself and a team of other stylists could not figure out what you wanted, and I told you that I wasn't comfortable proceeding until you stopped giving me conflicting information and settled on something that I could go on. You were the one who insisted I do something, so I went ahead with a semi-permanent golden blonde. Now you think that's too dark, yet the first color you said you wanted was permanent auburn, which is red-brown and stays until you cut it out. Good thing I didn't do that, eh?

C/f: Well, I think I'd almost prefer that to this color- it's too dark.

(Sound of me banging my head on the desk)

Me: Uhm, you do realize that auburn is about 4 levels darker than what you now have, don't you? Well, fine- come in and I'll just slap some of that on then.

C/f: Well, I don't want to do that if you can't take it out if I don't like it. ....

.....and the conversation went on for a frustratingly long 20 minutes until I got so irritated I told her she was responsible for her own homework and I would be very happy to do whatever the **** she wanted, provided she figured out what that was. What she really wants is to be 20 years younger and there's not a lot I can do about that. My co-workers all say that no friend would be such a consistent PITA and that I should tell her to go elsewhere, but I just don't have the heart to- yet, anyway. Maybe I'll get lucky and she'll go elsewhere- I told her I was booked solid for quite some time (true) so she may move on to someone else.

Swanie, I've already delivered the bricks out of my backyard to the driveway. That's about as far as I go. Do you seriously want to transport them back to AZ? RStar also is interested in both bricks and wood.

I'm sorry to report, there is no straw. Will feathers do?

Thanks NA!

And while we are in the giving mood, anyone want a working gas clothes dryer?

And for all of those in So. Cal. suffering from the 90-95* heat, you can blame it on MousePlanet. They are holding their simi-annual MouseAdventure today and that almost always spikes the temps! ;)

The highs next weekend, low 60s......

wolfy999 04-13-2008 02:37 PM

Less than an hour left of MA.......I'm so glad I'm just meeting for drinks. What a day it must have been!

JWBear 04-13-2008 04:24 PM

We had friends visiting from out of town today. We went with them to The Aquarium of the Pacific. Man, was it ever crowded!!! The temp wasn't too bad though; there actually was an ocean breeze. We had lunch at the cafe there. The food was surprisingly very good!

Now, I'm sitting in our nice, air conditioned, office - with the temperature set at "meat locker". Ahhhhhhhh.........

Chernabog 04-13-2008 04:50 PM

94 degrees right now at almost 5pm in the Valley.

Maybe instead of moving over the hill this summer, I can move to Vancouver. Isn't it nice and cold in Vancouver? (Right now it's cloudy and 55 degrees there, that's my kind of weather!)

BarTopDancer 04-13-2008 04:58 PM

It's still 92 here in Irvine. I am so glad I have AC.

Bought a nice london broil to grill up for dinner.

Snowflake 04-13-2008 05:11 PM

85 in SF yesterday and around 80 today. Ugh.
The fog is going to roll in soon and there is now a breeze from the west.
Soon back to normal 60 degrees (c/mon up for a visit Cherny)

wendybeth 04-13-2008 05:20 PM

It was nearly 80 up here today.

Just last week it was snowing- the weather is so schizo up here anymore. Hey, did someone say something about Jello shots?:D

Yes, but I opted for quervo gold tequila shots instead. I have a chicken on the rotisserie on my grill. It was on fire. I had to hose it down. Perhaps the shots weren't such a good idea ;) . I saved it just in time. It's down to 95 here.....

Snowflake 04-13-2008 06:50 PM

the fog is rolling in, the temp is back to normal. What a relief!

I'm clueless, what are jello shots?

It was nice and warm here in Ventura cty today. I decided it was a tad bit too warm this early in the season for mountain biking, and sat out the second half of the ride. I kicked some butt on the first half though! Kept up (mostly) with the main group of relatively fast riders.

Only 9 miles today. ::sigh::

My experience is that with most DVD players, if you havn't watched anything since you stopped in the middle of something, if you just push play (when the main menu automatically comes up), it should just start playing from wherever you stopped - even in the middle of a chapter.

Hopefully this PITA goes away. I work in the print industry and thankfully we have an industry standard color system (with the unfortunate acronym of PMS (Pantone Matching System). If you want a specific color, you call it out by number.

Wow, sorry to hear it's been so frigging hot out there. It's finally feeling wonderful out here, though I suspect it's much warmer outside. Still brisk in the mornings, but I'm a bit thankful I'm here in the cooler climate for the time being.

I hear summers can be brutal (ie. 100+ degrees) here, but I'll just have to wait that one out. For now, it's short-sleeved blouses for me!

I have a feeling that the wave of heat that just blew through here is likely headed your way. at least it was just a couple days. its effin gorgeous out there now

blueerica 04-14-2008 02:43 PM

We jumped over the weekend, but I think we were too far north to really get the heat effects. It was in the 70s in SLC this week and was close to that where I live (further north). It's supposedly warmer today, but I wouldn't know, I'm trapped in an ugly pink cube. We cool off again tomorrow (supposedly... the meteorologists are typically wrong these days) but then who knows after that.,..

katiesue 04-14-2008 02:51 PM

excellent! Ive always wondered how these poor souls survive in the heat thats usually on those days, especially in the incredible outfits they arrive in. Ive wanted to attend that particular gathering since I first heard about it, but the heat is usually enough to make me wuss out.

Brigitte 04-14-2008 05:53 PM

Oh yes :) we had some wind and rain first thing that turned into small pellets of hail, then the snow. We had 2 nice days in a row over the weekend that were in the 70s and there are still piles of snow around town.

wendybeth 04-14-2008 05:55 PM

Pretty cool to meet in my dream since IRL she is singing at the great opera house in the sky. Weird dreams!

So, I log in to the internet today and open up my web browser. Google is my home page.

Google is in French today.

Why?

BarTopDancer 04-15-2008 03:35 PM

We get that in my office quite a bit. The best we can figure, is Google is misreading IP addresses. There should be a link to Google English somewhere on that page.

lashbear 04-15-2008 03:36 PM

I checked and can't see Google.com OR google.com.au in French - perhaps your language prefs are all akimbo ?

Matterhorn Fan 04-15-2008 03:42 PM

It's gotta be the funky IP thing... The homepage is set to google.com, but what's coming up is google.fr. (So it's not a language pref.)

It's not a problem, really. It is awfully curious, though.

Bon jour from France, everyone! I guess.

Snowflake 04-15-2008 03:47 PM

Oh.My.God.So.Freakin.Adorable

Swanie, feel better soon! You have an absolutely killer of cuteness there.

Alex 04-15-2008 04:13 PM

If you're getting Google in another language when you want Google English, try going explicitly to www.google.us. Usually that will work. If not, do www.google.ca or www.google.uk to get the Canada or UK sites.

Some spelling differences on the pages and result ranking may vary slightly but otherwise the same stuff.

I think I must be the most annoying person here, but I swear, the fact that my phone isn't working, I need software, and special project stuff isn't entirely my fault.

All-in-all, today has been good, which is a relief. A big. Fat. Relief.

Oh, and samoa girl scout cookies are 75 calories of stress relief, but only in proper dosages.

Do they come in the same single serving sleeves like the Thin Mints?

Mousey Girl 04-16-2008 09:44 AM

I feel a bit pleased with myself. I have not bought or eaten a single GS cookie this year.

Now if only I could get the lady I work for to stop making danish/donut runs 3 times a week I would be a happy camper.

I'm heading to work now for my last day before "vacation".

Then I get to spend the next week and a half as a professional actor!

I questioned their packaging decisions, since I'm getting so used to these "100 calorie packs" and what-not. 75 calories or not, there's no way I can plow through that single serving! ;)

Unfortunately, Susan ordered the wrong cookies for me. Normally I like a combination of Thin Mints and All Abouts. For some reason, she got the Tagalongs instead of the All Abouts. Tried 'em and didn't like 'em. So if anyone wants a couple boxes of Tagalongs, they are yours for the taking.

Absolutely! She should be going five times per week!

wolfy999 04-16-2008 10:27 AM

Which ones are the Tagalongs?

blueerica 04-16-2008 10:30 AM

Aren't Tagalongs the peanut butter filled ones?

Oh, I forgot to mention that it went from 90 on Monday, to 43 and snowing on Tuesday (same time of day). I left work early yesterday and it was like I was driving in a snowglobe! Today we're even colder, but I don't want to really go there.

Swanie brought me real samoas and thin mints.

There IS a difference between the bakeries. I reject "caramel delights". They are NOT the same. We did a blind taste test at work. Samoas and thin mints from the Little Brownie bakery won hands down.

Being honest here...

I like what you did with the elements, although I put a fictitious number in the system so I did not get a call. But I have to say that the "other guys" implementation was a little smoother in terms of the motion follow of the tattoo and the photo.

Also, did you guys create your site before the other people?

I'm not trying to be critical - I think it is a great site. Just some observations.

Everyone assumes that all Girl Scout cookies are the same, but depending on the region they can vary in selection and even taste. I'm sure I'll be leading T and M's troop again next year, so I can hook you all up. ;)

We did create it first, hence my noting they copied us. I agree with you that their key framing is a little smoother, but since it's derivative and doesn't use the multi-platform technology, I just don't think it's as interesting. (Too bad you put a fake number in - it's not "tracked" or sold, and that's the coolest part.)

What is up with this week? The minutes are flying like hours.

I want nothing more than to be back home, curled on the couch, watching more of the extended editions of Lord of the Rings (for some reason I got the LotR bug up my arse again -- re-reading the book, watching the movies, playing the MMORPG... noooooo idea why I find it so fascinating). Of course, Mr. Kenny makes me seem like an amateur with all that stuff :)

Ya. He's got a new baby at home and his wife isn't thrilled that he didn't retire last year.

Scotty and Selanne were in a tough spot last year. There is speculation that they had planned to come back all along, but had to hold off to circumvent the salary cap. Decisions and trades were made with hope they would come back. Then the season started off horribly wrong, we weren't doing well, their "official announcements" dragged out forever. If they didn't come back, they would have lost a huge fan base who perceived them as being selfish and screwing up the team. They did come back and we're still not playing up to our potential (on paper, we have an amazing team who could take the Cup again, in reality, not so much). Burke said that he would not allow them to do what they did again. Stay or go, the decision has to be made before the season starts.

alphabassettgrrl 04-18-2008 11:03 AM

Great pic! So much of a backstory could be made from it! :)

I'm off to work tonight. We have the Miss Ventura pageant as well as the Miss PreTeen and Miss Teen pageant. So we'll have a stage full of anorexics. Our whole crew wants to feed them. ;) I'm heartened that in our culture of ultra-slender, real people want women who have more substance. Hollywood lies; you *can* be too thin.

Seriously, coffee often fills me with an incredible sense of well-being. It's can't just be the caffeine, can it?

(In other news, I think there's finally a theme park that appeals to both CoasterMatt AND his wife's key interests simultaneously. Expect them to move to Myrtle Beach in the near future ;))

I was expecting to be able to say "yes, I can get you the picture in a size that would allow you to make a billboard near your house." But that is a USA Today photo not a publicity photo so I don't have access to a bigger one and probably neither does anybody else unless USA Today put it on the wires.

Fare-thee-well (or not) soul sucking law firm, I departed with a clean desk and no regrets.

Hello hopefully less than soul sucking law firm, you were not so sucky in 1999, I hope that remains the same. Given that so many people I know are still there, I think I've made the right choice.

Goodbye commuting by car, hello commuting by MUNI. Instead of $45 a week in gas, $45 a month for a MUNI pass and probably gassing the jalopey once a month.

The Boy is gone for the weekend. I am getting ready to start a marathon round of baking. I am helping out my mom and providing deserts for tomorrow night (their RV club monthly get together). I am doing a pastel pound cake, 5 lbs of fudge, chocolate chip butter cookies and molasses crackle cookies. I enjoy baking, and I volunteered to do this. I should have started a few hours ago, but I wanted Boy to be gone so that I can bake without distractions.

Prudence 04-18-2008 09:20 PM

It is snowing.

It is not just snowing a little.

It is pouring snow.

It has snowed at least 3 inches here - maybe 4. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

I coped by going to the mall. And buying clothes. And chocolate. And jewelry.

Prudence 04-18-2008 09:21 PM

And it's making double posts, because it hates me.

CoasterMatt 04-18-2008 09:53 PM

blueerica 04-18-2008 10:05 PM

Seriously, the weather is F'd up. Last week, 85 to snowing the next morning. This weekend... probably going to hit 80 before another snow/rain storm hits and drops us 40 degrees.

So sick of this.

Why did I move away, again?

Oh yeah...

Oh, and I was off work yesterday with a horrible Resp Tract infection, and today due to the worsening of said infection, I started a course of my Mexican Penicillin capsules (they're good till Feb 09, it says, and I've been kepping them in the fridge) I'm just now boiling up 2 lb of chicken frames in a big pot and I'm gonna make Jewish Penicillin with noodles. Yarrr!!

"Ghosts Of Treasure Island" opened Friday, with shows at 9:45 and 11:45. (Obscene hours for actors!)

It's a great show, with music by Captain Bogg and Salty, enormously popular pirate rock band. These are children's musicians with some serious chops! The Oregonian compared the show's music to early Juthro Tull.

This is who I'm working with for the next week. Meet my new friends:

I am wondering what's actually going to happen on Sunday. Oddly, I thought for a while that the weather patterns up here followed California, but it seems to come more from Washington and Utah - I'm a day late!

Just checked: Weather.com says - and I quote - "Rain / Snow Showers / Wind. 44° F" Ugh. These 30 degree ups and downs are starting to F with me. Every. Fricken. Week.

Ugh. You guys are depressing me. Is this what I have to look forward to. I forgot what it was like to live not in So Cal.

In other news, I'm about to go back to the hospital - when J will hopefully be getting finished with his scoping and I can watch the comic hilarity of him coming out of anesthesia. Then hopefully we get to go home. I'm pretty much done with going to the hospital.

But not until after I try The Chrysler Building, a sandwich in their cafeteria that sounds delicious, but isn't available when I'm there in the evenings.

Mousey Girl 04-19-2008 09:40 AM

I got finished baking last night at exactly 11:00. I still have to make the lemon glaze for the cake and cut up the fudge, but at least the cooking is all done.

I did have a mishap. I was going out the front door to lock up my car and I slid on one of Nick's toys. I went down hard on the floor (not carpet) by the front door. I sort of sat there stunned, with my foot at a wierd angle. I was afraid to move, thinking I had broken something. Luckily, nothing seems to be broken. I have some bruising on my hip and my toes are sore, but other than that I am ok.

Mousey Girl 04-19-2008 10:30 PM

Over all the dinner with my parent's group went well.

I did get rather upset, though. I supplied all of the deserts. I heard someone talking about my fudge. It was very negative. I looked over and it was at the next table, she then went on to slam everything I had made. I told my mom what I was hearing and then went outside to chill out.

It was the most immature thing I have seen/heard in a long time. Ok, so you didn't enjoy it, don't slam it within earshot of the person who made it. Keep in mind, the average age of this group is 65+.

My foot still hurts and my big toe is turning blue. My ankle was bugging me because I was walking funny. My hip is also starting to show the bruise.

RStar 04-19-2008 11:03 PM

Wow MG, first you get beat up while cooking the goodies, then you get beat up afterwards. That just sucks. That sour puss wouldn't have been happy unless it was a glass of lemonaide! I'm sure it was her and not your cooking. The world is full of fools, just don't let 'em get you down.

Snowflake 04-20-2008 04:12 AM

MG, cold compress on your foot and ankle. If you are still having lots of pain, go to the doctor and have it checked out asap. You may have broken a toe. No long walkies in the next few days, that you are already having a problem cause you are favoring, not good. Takes it easy!

Oh, and I am with Rstar, old battleaxe does not deserve your baked goodies. But, with her attitude, she's making herself sick inside and out, don't let her get to you.

Two weeks ago, we said goodbye to Molly, the female half of TeamBeagle. She was hit by a car. Her spine was severed and there was nothing to do but to thank her for being the awesome, loving beagle she was and to let go.

Her brother Jack is fine, although he, too, tried to run across a highway. (A kid visiting the house had left the door ajar. The two beagles ran through the village and crossed a highway. A car of college kids got the dogs off the highway, called us (from the tags on their collars), called the Humane Society which has an ambulance (nearest emergency vet is 30 min. away), and wrapped Molly in a blanket. Those kids and the ambulance personnel were beyond awesome.

It has been terribly sad.

Here they are in better days, helping make breakfast. That's Molly on the left and Jack on the right.

Snowflake 04-20-2008 01:00 PM

Aw Helen, I'm SO sad and sorry for your loss. That's heartbreaking. :(

Internetting is soothing for me. I've been on the run all weekend with work and all. Now that I'm home, my hounds have been spastic as has the cat. Got the one hound walked (thank you honey), the other one ate more food and has settled down a bit. Even the cat has settled.

I was feeling stressed and off balance, made worse by lack of internet time. Honey asks if I want to hit the coffee shop, and I don't. It would be an interruption of my routine. I want to be here, to internet, and get some laundry done and maybe some homework.

I think the wine is calling me. :) So glad to be here with you folks.

ozron 04-20-2008 11:11 PM

When I got to the theatre at 12:30 for today's matinee there were police barricades up blocking a big section of downtown, including the stage door! Two blocks away a man was on a balcony railing on the 14th floor of the Marriott, threatening to jump. He had been there since about 11:00. When we left the theatre around 3:30 he was still there. The last I heard was at 6:30, and police were still negotiating with him.

It was somewhat surreal.

wendybeth 04-20-2008 11:53 PM

That would have been surreal to perform during, to say the least. How did your show go?

BarTopDancer 04-21-2008 08:23 AM

So, I'm driving to work today, minding my own business and SPLAT. Bug on the windshield. Ewwww. I use my handy dandy windshield wipers and washing system... no more bug, but my window is still ikky cause I am almost out of washer fluid. All of a sudden, this car speeds up to get in front of me (I'm on the 241, we're all going 70ish) and hits their breaks. I move over, not wanting to be behind an erratic driver who is also a brake rider. He moves over. I move back. He moves back, hits his breaks. I realize I'm now behind a moron and slow down. He slams on his breaks and starts washing his windows. He was making a conscious effort to get my car with his wiper spray. I must have gotten his car when I washed my windows. What he didn't realize, is that he was totally being helpful because with the spray off his car, I no longer had streaky windows. Thanks dude!

blueerica 04-21-2008 09:23 AM

I'm so glad you asked!

The show is going great! Friday morning was our first two school shows (9:45 and 11:45) and we had a public matinee on Sunday. All three houses were full and loved the show. The school kids screamed and clapped, the public house was full of kids (and some parents) in pirate garb.

The show itself kicks! Rockin music, great cast, great story that doesn't play down to the kids, and a kickass fight scene with musket, rapier and cutlass. Captain Bogg & Salty are very popular, and add so much to the show.

I do think about you guys there. Loren Hoskins (aka Captain Bogg) does our pre-recorded house announcements (cell phones, pictures, etc.) and he sounds chillingly like X Atencio. ("...keep to the code...turn off those blasted cell phones...") Wish you could hear it.

Gotta say this is one of my pet peves while driving. It totally screws up my windows which were fine before the moron in front of me started spraying me.

I've done it to people who were following waaaaaaaaaaay too close. They generally back off. It's more effective (unless you get a rager) than hitting the brakes.

lindyhop 04-21-2008 12:30 PM

I was driving some cheapo rental car a while back and while driving through the alley I decided the windshield needed cleaning. That's when I found out the spray wasn't actually pointed at the window but at the poor guy looking for bottles and cans in the trash as I drove by.

On another note, I think I've discovered something even more annoying than having to hear half of some idiot's cell phone conversation: Having to listen to some idiot's computer in the coffee shop as they watch some program with a loud, guffawing studio audience. Geez, I'm so paranoid about annoying people that I plug in ear phones just to avoid the sound of Windows starting up.

blueerica 04-21-2008 01:15 PM

Hehe, I don't have speakers for that reason, Lindy. I hate it when people have their random stuff pop up. Aren't people supposed to be hiding that sort of tom foolery? Or is it something people just don't care about any more?

I even feel bad that I am on here. But, I have decided that this is my sanity harbor, and that without the LoT, I would go bat-sh*t crazy.

I took it a step further. My bro-in-law worked at an auto salvage yard. I went with him to work one day and hi-jacked a large window wash bottle complete with pump and hose (I think it came out of a huge Buick). I then mounted it in the bed of my pickup truck, aimed the nozzle out the side of the truck and wired it with its own trigger button. Then I could nail people on the side of my truck without messing with my window-washing capabilities.

I 2nd, 3rd or 4th the request for pics Pru when you are coherent.

wolfy999 04-21-2008 07:54 PM

Wolfpack is thinking of buying a PT Cruiser to replace the Mini-Van we now own that is sucking money out of us left and right. $11,000 for a 2007 with all the goodies we want with 17000 miles on it.....any opinions?

BarTopDancer 04-21-2008 08:23 PM

Yes, pass. They are super cute, but laid out very oddly and the seats aren't that comfortable. I'd recommend a Mazda3 5 door, Toyota Matrix or the Mazda5. I think they all have about the same (if not more) cargo space then the PT Cruiser.

I'm bias towards the 3 (because I looooove mine - 4 door, but the 5 doors are super cool too). The Matrix is also a great car, with super comfortable seats and a well designed layout.

wolfy999 04-21-2008 08:25 PM

We have rented one once in South Carolina for a day and kinda liked it. Just not sure on the price and reliablity.

alphabassettgrrl 04-21-2008 08:33 PM

It's a Chrysler. I'd worry about it long-term. A friend of mine just bought one and they are happy, though.

"kinda like it" from renting it is a crapshoot when buying. You'll either love it or hate it. It is a Chrysler, and they don't have the greatest rep. They also get pretty crappy mileage. I'd look at other cars, even rent them for a few days. Check out reviews on KBB and Edumnds too.

I bet you could get a great deal on a Hummer these days though.

When car shopping with GC we drove a PT Cruiser. Then we asked our resident Carmen (or is that CarMan?) about it. He said "DON'T BUY IT - IT IS CRAP". So, no. Look for something else.

Pass, they're really ugly and strangers will make fun of you as you drive by.

Or I will. But even if it is just me then that should be more embarrassment than any normal human should be able to stand.

On more serious/useful advice (though I do find them truly ugly) I know four PT Cruiser owners well enough to have discussed it with them. 2 absolutely love them after years of ownership. The other 2 have decided that they'll walk to work before they ever consider buying another as they've been nothing but trouble.

Your mileage, quite literally, may vary.

I heard it this morning on the news, but nothing since.

I have, however, been doing my part today:
recycled various paper reports (they were wrong anyway)
drove my lil wind up car to work (love that lil thing, even if it aint a racecar)
recycled the half dozen plastic bottles littering my desk
killed the ants on my desk with a 'squish' instead of insecticides

yeah...Im green :D

Only if scarring occurs, Matt.

Tori has the pukies, which means that shortly I will probably as well. Fun!

Disneyphile 04-23-2008 12:40 AM

I am so wiped. We just spent a few hours straightening out the office, and unpacking and sorting all the freebie crap/publications/catalogs from NAB. I had four very large bags of free stuff that I accumulated over that week. I also shelved the 14 books I purchased. I scored them all for $3 each, since they were last year's "featured" titles. I've now got an entire library on independent filmmaking, computer animation, DVD authoring, color correction, audio mixing, etc., etc. Most of them were originally $50-$80 each, so I totally scored big time! :D

The clutter is now free and organized, so my mind can be equally free to create, create, create! :D

Ok, so clutter doesn't so much dampen my creativity, but it does my productivity. It greatly helps to be able to just grab my notes or books when doing something, without having to look around for them first. I'm streamlining so I'll have more free time. :)

You don't want to get me started on bad calls.

So I'll say this. It seems the officiating across all games of the first round has been terrible.

It does seem they are trying to stack it in Canada's favor. Though the Senators got knocked out first round too. YAY! I think Detroit will win this year. They've been on a mission all season.*

*the above statement should not be taken as any rooting for or supporting of Detroit.

Tori is still sick- after being up all night throwing up every 1/2 hour, she is now running a fever and her little cheeks are flaming red. Poor kid- she was supposed to be watching her friend run his track meet right now, but instead she's curled up in bed with a cold compress on her head. Several times in the past few weeks, I've read restaurant reviews on Yelp or elsewhere that mention that the reviewer ordered muscles.

You can build muscles. You can rub muscles. You can admire muscles. Technically, if you're eating meat, you're probably even eating muscles. But you probably wouldn't call them that.

Just last week I felt compelled to fire off a note to the fine people who run that other chat-about-a-mouse place, taking them to task for, amongst other things, "Ollie Johnson."

It went a little something like this:

Quote:

Could you guys get a proofreader? Or an editor? Something?

Quote:
"This week saw a Disney legend, Julie Andrews, visiting the Disneyland Resort for a book signing. We also saw the passing of Ollie Johnson, another Disney legend and the last of Walt's nine old men. There is also a guide for disabled guests visiting Universal Studious Hollywood and the question; What does you ****Chat name mean? Enjoy - ********"

The sum total official mention on the site of Ollie Johnston's death is as an addendum to Julie Andrews' appearance at the Park? And you can't even spell his name right? Universal Studious? And what does this sentence mean? "What does you ****Chat name mean?"

Ollie should have led. Here you go, all fixed.

"This week saw the sad passing of Disney Legend Ollie Johnston, the last surviving member of Walt's "Nine Old Men." We saw another Disney Legend, Julie Andrews, visit Disneyland for a book signing and the dedication of a very special carousel horse. There's a new guide for disabled guests at Universal Studios Hollywood, and we ask the question,"What does your ****chat name mean?"

Needless to say, I haven't received a reply.

The piano movers are coming this morning. They're taking the legs off, wrapping the body in those mover cloths, turning the piano on its side and storing it in a bedroom.

Then there will be nothing at all in the living room. We're ripping out the carpet and putting in hickory flooring. Well, when I say we, I mean burly men in muscle shirts and their claw hammers.

3894 does not install hardwood flooring. That would not be swanky.

OMG

I didn't see it at first, but after reading the article (with its viewing instructions), its pretty damned funny.

Chernabog 04-24-2008 01:03 PM

^^ OK so the OGC thing is totally fracking hilarious!!!

Kevy Baby 04-24-2008 01:04 PM

I had to show a coworker what was funny about. "Here's the head, here's the legs, here's an arm and I'll let you figure out the rest."

JWBear 04-24-2008 03:14 PM

5:30 can not come fast enough. Every year I swear to myself that I will, henceforth and forever, take Bring You Child to Work Day off. Every year I forget the horror, and come to work. Will someone please hit me over the head with a large heavy object next April, and remind me to take it off!

There is one little girl, spawn of one of the staff here, who keeps coming to my office to stand in the doorway and glare at me with that look of utter condemnation that only a 3 year old girl can muster – as if all the injustices of her short life are being heaped on my shoulders. I keep turning and seeing her out of the corner of my eye; it’s like a scene out of a horror movie.

The one upside to this yearly festival of pain is that it reminds me of why I’m so lucky to be gay, and unlikely to breed.

Chernabog 04-24-2008 03:54 PM

"Shirley Temple Breaks Arm, Turns 80"

Yes, that's an actual headline from today. I'm still trying to figure out how breaking her arm aged her to 80, but okay. ;)

Ghoulish Delight 04-24-2008 04:08 PM

I have no pictures, but I read about a sign in an airport (forget which one but pretty sure it was in Japan or China) that read

"We will be happy to send your lugage in all directions".

Sure, they are trying to help, but OMG!

Someday I shall learn to eat my lunch without spilling a high percentage of it on my shirt.

Alas, today is not that day.

A dream I had last night prominently featured the song "I Don't Wanna Fall in Love" by Jane Child. Don't know why. Haven't heard that song since it was on the radio a long, long time ago.
I'm listening to it now...
:)

Moonliner 04-25-2008 01:17 PM

Rack up a +1 for living on the Bitter East Coast.

Generally we don't get EATEN ALIVE like you SoCal'ers apparently do.

So now in addition to the standard rule of beach safety:

"If tide suddenly goes out, don't go pickup the fish. Run away. "

We can add a new one:

"If Seals or Sea Lions suddenly beach themselves, it's probably best that you do too."

BarTopDancer 04-25-2008 01:25 PM

He didn't get eaten. He was bit. And died from his injuries.

Alex 04-25-2008 01:29 PM

Wasn't the "shark attack" media panic a few years ago mostly driven by attacks on the East Coast?

Perhaps, but shark attacks here in DC are rather uncommon.

Yeah, but you still live in DC. I'll take the chance.

Alex 04-25-2008 01:43 PM

That's true. But even in SoCal shark attacks are also pretty rare in the parts that don't touch the ocean. Unless you live in San Jose, in which case they have Shark Attacks!TM.

Disneyphile 04-25-2008 02:29 PM

Today is SO my day! :D

The taxes worked out better than hoped, and we got an awesome return which deposited today! I took some of it to reinvest in the business, so I just did a little retail electronics therapy. I now have a new small point-and-shoot HD video camera to practice with, just in time for the cruise. :D And, I also now have an additional external firewire harddrive for my laptop, so I can edit on the go too. :D

And then on the way home, I decided to stop for lunch at Panda Express and ended up with a free meal! They were doing a taste test for a new product, and I just had to provide my phone number so they can call me in the next day and ask what I thought. And, it's goooooooooood too. They're trying out a "To Go" item that is a thin wrap stuffed with fried rice, veggies, and orange chicken. It's actually quite yummy.

So, yeah. New camera and free lunch! Go me!!! :D

(This greatly helps, seeing as I've been in a grief depression all week after spending nearly 10 nights sleeping in a room with my mother's cremains.)

I am home. 11 interviews in a day-and-a-half. There appears to be some interest and I have an offer, but I plan to turn it down. Long story, but the offer is the bare minimum commitment on their end and maximum risk on my end, which isn't a match in my book. Plus, other agencies expressed some significant interest and were offering a hell of a lot more.

You know you read LoT too much when you have a dream with Thurston in it! I've never even met Thurston yet!

Prudence 04-26-2008 05:22 PM

The teevee died while we were in DL, and I finally gave up and bought a new one today. I had planned to replace our 19" CRT with a comparable CRT, but ended up getting a 32" LCD instead.

I've decided teevees are like Christmas trees - they look small in the store, but then you get them home and ye gods! they're huge! Actually, the 32" is a good size for the spot, although definitely larger than what was there before. If we'd gone any larger, though.....

The DVD portion of our VCR/DVD combo had died, too, so we got a cheap-o DVD player, too. Can't afford the fancypants blu-ray now, but the picture is still pretty good compared to what we had.

That's because his adorableness sends powerful vibes through the air, and the sleeping person is especially vulnerable to such things. The only cure is to actually meet him, and then steal him from that tangle-haired redhead he hangs out with.

Thurston is at Coachella??? Lucky dog!! ;)

It sounds like you guys are having some real fun. How is the heat treating you? It probably isn't nearly as hot here and I am beat from the heat.

So, I'm outta the loop, who all is there? Is there a thread?

Damnit but I want a laptop. I had promised myself I'd have one before I went back to Yosemite but guess who is going again in a couple of weeks? The Hubster wants to do the Mist Trail and I don't know what else. He is so determined he has booked housekeeping camp!!!

iSm~any tips? I know you don't particularly care for HKC but I think I'd rather stay there than a cabin without a bath because we can have a fire. Oh, and be by the river.

I don't want to see a bear though....saw two last time and four in Tahoe!!!
{where is the head in the sand, cover my eyes smilie???? Or maybe a chicken? :blush: }

NA, didn't you guys go to Yosemite recently, too? Or plan to go up soon?

NA, €, GD and CP are currently at Coachella. Captain Jack, Ponine, GusGus and I are just out in Palm Springs sharing the house (although Cap Jack used NA's ticket to go to Coachella last night).

It was pretty hot today out here.

There are three threads about the upcoming camping trip. We decided it was easier to do a group in King's Canyon than Yosemite. Here is one of the threads.

CoasterMatt 04-26-2008 10:47 PM

Thank you for the links and the update!!! I feel so informed now. :D

Ah, I think the Kings Canyon dates interfere with the Boy and school. LOL And maybe that big black dick might also....but that is another story entirely.....

So, who is performing tonight? And, who did they see last night????

Gawd, I wanna see some kick ass rock people!!! But, I don't wanna be slammed. Is there slamming going on? Moshing it may be called.

I do not feel sorry for you that it is hot in Palm Springs. :p I would definitely imagine that you have wonderful A/C going on, some nice cold drinks, and, perhaps a pool at your disposal?

I do feel for those at the show during the day, though. Probably why everyone seems to be going at night?

And....CoasterMatt...ummmm....what geese?

Sorry folks, I am sooo hyped on coffee and Rockstar....I'm going to go ping off somewhere.....

Heh heh....I'm a Leo with a Pisces moon. I'm so conflicted- I tend to be more spiritualistic than your typical Leo, but I'm smug about it. (My mom was a hardcore astrologist, so I was raised on this stuff...)

Who is Alan Tudyk?

katiesue 04-27-2008 08:52 AM

So I took Maddy to a Def Leppard concert last night. She says they don't sound like Old Farts.

This was at the Crickett Wireless {formerly known as Coors?}?

I know you can exit south towards the housing/junkyards to hit up the 905 but I don't know if you can enter that way, too.

Oh my gosh. I live right there. They used to give us a list of the shows so that we could be aware of the 'situations'. Gawd, what a freakin' mess. Couldn't go anywhere and then again when the shows got out. They wouldn't even let people turn into the housing area!!!

For some reason I haven't really been noticing. I think that only means that my life sucks and I don't go anywhere. :(

But, anywho, after shows, we normally leave towards the south. Unless we leave the show early then it isn't too bad.

It is hot today.........what is everyone doing to stay cool? It is also my sons 14th birthday. *sigh* while I love that I don't have to take cupcakes anymore :D it is still a reminder of how old he {I'm} getting.

alphabassettgrrl 04-28-2008 09:57 AM

It was hot enough here yesterday that I actually went looking for a pair of shorts, hoping I could 1- find a pair, and 2- that they would still fit.

Ice in my drink. Ice in the dog water bowl. Open windows and turn on the fan. That's how we stay cool here.

Wow, same thing here. Our branch in Orlando almost took the day off because of power outages - but they were only dark for a little over an hour, so few actually escaped in time to have a half-Monday.

Our servers are down, and I can't do the important stuff on my plate. So, I'm pulling stuff from the backburners and it's really annoying. Oh well.

Happy birthday to your son. Not sure if it is easier or not but I didn't like cupcakes too much so Mom brought in a cookie cake when I had a Birthday in Elementary School Ahhh good times!

Morrigoon 04-28-2008 10:49 AM

I hope the catering guy with the lunches comes by soon. I'm starving!

MouseWife 04-28-2008 12:49 PM

alphabassettgrrl~ went clothes shopping yesterday as well, trying to find capris, not shorts not long jeans. Well, I don't think my body was made for them.

I put ice in the cat and dogs dishes this a.m.

Thank you for the birthday wishes for the boy!! Umm...I gave in {quickly} and allowed him to stay home from school, so, neither cookies or cupcakes {but now I want a chocolate chip cookie!!}. Dad called to wish him a happy birthday and asked him if he wanted to stay home. Testing is finished for him so he is here. I am going to try and get him out of the house for a spell.

But, that goes back to the shared pain we have, I rarely seem to get out of here unless there is something really important going on. And, I find it easy to stay home and take care of things here as opposed to heading out and making my own fun.

Wah. Must get a life!!!

blueerica 04-28-2008 12:52 PM

How funny that people catch their own mistakes (that they've used time and time again) in a document they figured I wrote - when I only copied/pasted it. Har har...

Surely enough, they were mistakes that I could have caught, but I was led to believe that using these documents on this relatively unimportant document would be enough, so I didn't check because... well, it's been good enough for 9 different uses, right?

;)

But yeah, part of me still says I should have caught it.

Well, yesterday I worked outside all day in my Magic Heat-Magnifying Tent selling ThinKrisps. Today, I'm collecting orders, and will soon be on my way to the kitchen, where I will bake hot, melty, crispy, cheesy ThinKrisps.

Who wants to bring me a cooling beverage?

Oh man. I would but I think I am too far away from your kitchen.

My sincere sympathies. Do you have a fan you can put right on you? When I am in the kitchen {and this is a rare occassion} and it is hot, I must have a fan. Either one in the window or a stand up fan.

Kevy Baby 04-28-2008 01:47 PM

I would, but I really don't like you that much :p

Seriously, I wish logistics allowed me to do so. It has been a while since I've scene you.

I have decided that I am buying something for the house with my rebate thingy. My recliner is in serious need of retirement. Instead of buying a new, single person, recliner, I am getting a dual relcining loveseat.

katiesue 04-28-2008 01:59 PM

So I'm at Target yesterday and there's this teenaged kid in front of me with the boxers/jeans below your butt thing happening. And I'm walking behind him and just trying to figure out how he keeps the pants up? He was doing a bit of a knock-kneed walk. Presumeably because this is the only way to walk with your pants wasteline around your upper thighs. But seriously how do you keep the actual pants from totally falling off?

Gn2Dlnd 04-28-2008 02:15 PM

Cinch 'em.

MW- I'm not sure Capris actually look good on anyone. But I guess as long as they're comfy go for it. I think I might have to buy a pair of shorts for the cruise. Normally I wear jeans all summer long but we will be in Panama... hotter there I suspect.

Gn2DL- best of luck keeping cool!!! I wish I were close enough to bring you a thermos of something cold.

What is it with dogs and ice cubes? My boy dog absolutely adores ice cubes. He pushes them out of the bowl onto the floor and then eats all of them. He can't walk away from 'em. My girl likes them, but she can walk away sometimes. Especially if she thinks she should be getting a cookie.

Oh, the memories that brings up. Bacon grease burns are not pretty.

alphabassettgrrl~LOL I think are right there!! Hey, I haven't been around so I didn't realize you are going on a cruise!! Have fun! I suspect as well it will be more hot in Panama, maybe more humid? Some gauze type shirts might be in order. I've been looking for those, too, but, again, I don't like how they look on me. I think I just need to think if I feel good then wear it, right? Why suffer?

katiesue~ those pants. You do wonder how they manage? I mean, what if they have to run out of the way of a car or something? Now, like abg and I were talking about clothes and comfort, those clothes can not, seriously, be comfortable. Did they forget how much fun it is to be able to walk unencumbered? Like, when they got out of diapers? Geesh!!!

Can't say I've ever cooked it naked, but I have cooked bacon without a shirt on. As someone who enjoys a bit of pain I found it a pleasant experience.

MouseWife 04-28-2008 06:16 PM

Ooo, what degree burn is that?

Ah, so, a gift of those candles whose wax doesn't burn skin would be wasted on you, dear? ;)

BarTopDancer 04-28-2008 06:40 PM

This is my Tigger. We got him when I was 8 from our vet. Someone hit him, took him to the vet and never came back. Our vet fixed him up and kept him as their office cat. I befriended him after spending many days at the vet while my mom and the vet took care of my parents other cat (named Mench) who had feline leukemia. A few weeks after Mench went to kitty heaven I begged my parents for another kitty and we brought Tigger home. Tigger was skittish and not to fond of 8 y/o kids. He loved my mom and followed her around the house. He would sit and stare at my mom's spot on the couch until she sat down and he could sit on her lap. When she would go to Canada he would wander around lost, looking for her. Today Tigger went to the big mousefest in the sky. My mom goes to Canada on Wednesday. I think he knew and wanted my mom to be there with him.

wolfy999 04-28-2008 06:42 PM

Sooo...

Having seen my sis-in-law yesterday, I told her I'd also come up tonight to visit (she's at the Grand Cal). So, knowing I'd be coming up there, you'd think at some point in the evening, she might check her cell, yes? No. I drove all the way up there and never reached her.

Luckily, I'd brought Sohrshah with me, so we went off to the Cheesecake Factory and had a grand time of it.

But I'm still cheesed off.

Very sorry to hear of the loss of Tigger, BTD. :( Sounds like your paths crossed when you both needed them to the most and that you brought a lot of joy into each other's lives. Sounds like he was one lucky little kitty. My heart goes out to you.

Prudence 04-29-2008 09:21 AM

So, what's up with the "alleged" liquid rule for carry-on luggage?

On the way to MA I was an idiot and packed my 4.8oz hair gel (not that it mattered in the heat) in my carry-on. In the quart bag, but still over the 3oz limit. (Pru's late night reasoning: I'm checking luggage this time, so unlike my WV trip I don't have to transfer some gel into a smaller container to meet TSA restrictions - I can just take the whole container! And then I put that whole container in the carry-on....) What happened? Nothing. Me and my illicit hair gel both flew coach to LGB.

Then on my way home from DC I forgot that I had packed a 20oz soda in the front pocket of my carry-on to drink after interviews and while waiting for a cab to the airport. I found it when I opened the front pocket to get out a book. To read. While sitting at the gate. After going through security. 20oz of mediocre ginger ale.

I'm starting to think this "3-1-1" thing is a hoax.

Mediocre drinks do not fall under the rule - it is only quality beverages that cause a problem.

So.....I think I want to get a 2nd kitty, so Tango has a buddy to play with. How hard is it to integrate a new cat to the household?

wendybeth 04-29-2008 10:21 AM

Depends. Does Tango want a new buddy? Some cats like being only kitties- I think Samwise would be perfectly happy if the other two disappeared. Still, more than one kitty is fun, and Tango will adjust even if he initially acts cranky.

Not Afraid 04-29-2008 10:40 AM

Tango is a she and I find that female cats are crankier than male cats when it comes to integration. However, Tango HAS lived with another cat, so she may be OK. Go with a kitten and try a male. (Orange boys are usually a good choice. ;))

Just invite Lisa to stay over for a bit, a new one will appear before you even know it.

Not Afraid 04-29-2008 10:45 AM

Hell, I'll even bring one along!

Alex 04-29-2008 10:47 AM

My experience is that they'll always find a way to live together with tearing each other to shreds but that they don't always come to enjoy the existence of the other.

Our worst cases were always introducing kittens to older cats but I've heard other people say that is the best way to go. Once, our existing cat never acted aggressively or put out by the new cat. She just started peeing all over the house (and, worst of all, frequently into the stove burners). Because of the timing we though it was the new cat until she was caught in the act.

It stopped immediately when we passed the cat on to another family. (This vengeful pee-er was the same cat that figured out all on her own and very late in life, with absolutely no prompting form us, to pee in the toilet.)

Unfortunately there really isn't any way to know how it will go since it so depends on the personalities involved and frequently a few days of tenseness before they decide to like each other (if they do).

I guess it depends on the individual case but for our family it was not much trouble at all. About ten years ago we adopted an orange cat, Flash. We named him Flash because he could really run! Of course there was the usual territory battles between Flahs and our other cat, Tiger but they became fast friends.
