It does sort of look like her hand is way too stressed...maybe his hands had been groping?

And yes, how sad. Walking around at a club and he is carrying a bottle???

zapppop, I love your bumper sticker.

I was listening to the news yesterday morning and the report sounds like an episode of Southpark. I kept imagining him drawn like he'd be on the show...

The San Francisco Chronicle's Don Assmussen has the real story...

And now you, too, can experience the rant.

So it is the end of a career for Gibson to say those things but simply humorous to set your phone to spew anti-semitic comments whenever you get a call?

Methinks someone didn't think it through if they actually install the ringtone.

Good article regarding Mel and hate speech.
Quote:

Hate speech is not a passive form of public speech. And one of the signs of an intolerant society is its hate speech, whether used jokingly or intentionally, aimed at specific groups of people. When this form of verbal abuse becomes part and parcel of the everyday parlance between people, we have created a society characterized by its zero-tolerance of inclusion and diversity, where name-calling becomes an accepted norm.

Lately this Republican political era of “compassionate conservatism” has brought forward an unabashed no-holds-barred attitude when it comes to passionate invective hurled at queers, African-Americans, and Jews.

In an interview with Ann Coulter, author of Godless: The Church of Liberalism, on the July 27 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with host Chris Matthews, Coulter called former vice president Al Gore a "fag,” and she hinted that Bill Clinton might be gay.

Good intentions in pulling that quote, GC, but using Ann Coulter kind of defeats the purpose: you expect that kind of insane comment from her.

I think the more relevant point is this: "When this form of verbal abuse becomes part and parcel of the everyday parlance between people, we have created a society characterized by its zero-tolerance of inclusion and diversity, where name-calling becomes an accepted norm."

When does a racial or sexist slur used as a joke become not a joke? Is it only when the target takes offense?

When I quote stuff, I usually just quote the beginning of each article. Most of the time anyway. But I see your point.
