If I lived in the Valley (as some posters do), I would be very happy (from a drive time perspective) with the move. If I lived in Riverside or Moreno Valley: not so happy. |

And she appreciated it.
Those of us coming from waaaaaay So Cal, or San Diego, have been getting the short stick on information. I dont know why. I have two friends in guilds, and the LoT seems to know way more than they do. So, as someone who stopped working faire in '95, I suddeny am the voice of wisdom . This is so terribly odd to me. I have no costume that even begins to fit, last worked archery in '95, and wow... I dont think I have set foot on a faire since then. I spent more time in SCA events since then, but have decided that the SCA isnt exactly what I am looking for. I derailed. Point being, swank friends, I appreciate all the information I hear. Eventually, it all becomes usefull. Thanks to GD I was able to quell someone who had been nagging me that the new site was another two hours north. Huzzah! |
As for the PG-13 "tone down" rumor - it's verified. One of the Poxy Boggards said they were to keep it at the level of Sound & Fury's "Testacles and the Sack of Rome" or lower. And "Testacles" is a theatrical spoof just full of innuendos, most of which children don't understand anyway. So, there won't be the NC-17 stage with songs like "Bang Away Lulu" or "Good Ship Venus" now.

Too bad they can't make this a more adult event. That was the most fun part of it. Perhaps there should be a faire more geared towards family and another more adult oriented?

I keep reading this threead as the So called Ren Faire

The "corporation" that runs the Renaissance Pleasure Faire is being absolutely stupid by "scouring the shire" with this toned-down nonsense, just because they want to "make more money". I don't see why the NC-17 stage could not stay in a sectioned area, and have a beer garden or such. They would have made a fortune! And now, they'll lose business...... and LOTS of it. Already, about 10 friends of mine who frequented the faire every year are refusing to return and have written letters as to why. They've also lost a lot of faire participants and vendors due to the site screw-up, and they'll lose a lot more, because the info was just released that there will be NO after-hours events allowed at the new site, and that the premises must be vacated by 7pm each night, and that participants can camp about 15 minutes away at a seperate lot. Without the afterhours events, a lot of participants will bail. And it wasn't "bad" stuff - mainly shows - we had to name a few: The "Electrical Parade" (people/pets/cars/things wrapped in xmas lights and parading through the dark to the *real* soundtrack), The Gong Show, various concerts, etc. It was the main perk to working faire. And they killed it. The stupid corporation has officially killed faire as far as I'm concerned. *sigh*] Somebody got a big fork? |
