If anyone is interested... One of my mother's neighbors is selling her 1964 1/2 Mustang. She is the original owner, and it is in beautiful condition.
Mom didn't know the price, but can find out. |
We're semi interested... As in, "my husband is interested, but we know that great condition 64.5s can be pricier than we can afford; however, we'd like to find out."

So a couple of months ago I got a new BBQ. I LOVE it. It has infrared heat. Basically there is a metal shield between the grate and the gas jets so it distributes heat more evenly and there are no flare ups because the drippings from the meat never hit the jets.
I'm a horrible judge of when things are done as my parents were questionable cooks at best. For my Dad grilling meant black all the way through. So I've been cooking using a temperature probe and letting that be my benchmark. Things have turned out so darn good. If you like your meat crispy then it's not the grill for you but we don't really so it's perfect. We've been doing steak, chicken, corn, asparagus, brussels sprouts and pizza. I got pizza stones and it's taken a little experimentation to get the sauce and cheese amounts right but they turn out really good. While I'm grilling it's been cooling off so much in the evenings that it's been just lovely to sit out and read. We're close to the freeway maybe 300 yards tops so there is a bit of noise. I got this great fountain that makes a lot of water noise so its been very pleasant to sit out there and read while I grill then have dinner. When Maddie has homework she either sits out with me or just inside. Its just been a wonderful start to summer. |

Firefly was a wonderful, albeit short-lived, American television series written by Joss Whedon. It was basically a Sci-Fi Western that was very well written. Unfortunately, it did not last long (only 14 episodes + a wrap-up movie that came out a couple of years later). Well worth checking out if it is available in your neck of the woods. |
Thank you - Sci Fi western, huh? I might have to try and find out some more info about it. I'm not sure where to start hunting for info.

Last night, driving up Highland, I noticed a sign pointing towards the "Dolby Theatre." Did I completely miss the changeover from Kodak, or is this a brand new thing? "Dolby Theatre" came up again today as one of the theaters debuting Atmos Sound, which seems odd, in a non-movie theater.
|
Dolby took over after the Kodak bankruptcy.
|
It was actually kind of "nameless" for the Oscars - it wasn't the Kodak any more, but the Dolby deal wasn't inked until a couple of weeks ago.

Wow! What a great way to show what psychedelics do to the mind. The analysis seems pretty spot on, too.

I wonder if they had a control where they made an non-tripping artist with similar skills sit in a room for 8 hours repeatedly drawing the same subject as their whimsy took them.
I'm not saying the LSD didn't impact the result, just that I don't think that an unaltered artist would have produced 8 identical portraits either. |

Now that I have a camera and am taking pics I need somewhere to put them. There are a lot of sites out there to store and share pics!
So I ask you kind people what do you use? |
What do you want? Just storage or lots of features around tagging/social/editing/etc.
|
I need something simple, mostly for storage but would be nice to be able to share with friends. My kid does Photoshop or something like it but I don't want to manipulate the photos just have a good place to store and sort them.
|
I'm still a fan of flickr. You have to pay to get more than a nominal amount of storage, but it's a reasonable price. I find it easy to use and like that I can put full-res up there.
|
Flickr will meet those requirements. It's what I use but has been from early on so I don't have experience with the other services.
|
I use Flickr, too. For very basic editing, you might look at the picnik website (www.picnik.com). It's very easy to use, and you can download them to the site from your computer, and then save them to either computer or to Flickr directly.
You can do straightening, cropping, brightening, darkening, red-eye fix, that kind of thing. |

Arrggg! My freakin' computer!
It's about 10 years old, 504 MB RAM, and a Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ CPU. Ok, it was great at the time, but now I have to re-start it half a dozen times to get it to load the monitor! :( I think the video card is failing. And I need a much faster processor ( min. dual core) to work on my home movies anyway. And it's so painfully slow at times. If I wasn't being slammed with so much medical expenses right now, I'd dump this dinosaur!! |
If your computer is that old, you could double its power by grabbing a $300 netbook :) if that's any consolation ;)
|
I know. Even if I got the cheepest computer on the market, it would be twice what I have now.
One reason that I dragged my feet on replacing it is I'm still running Windows XP, and I'd have to get use to Windows 7, not to mention transfering everything over, including programs I purchased that could be a hasstle. |
Definitely a hassle

Windows 7 is not too terribly different that I've seen, but I get you on the software replacement. |
I use XP at work and 7 at home. What is weird is that when I first got the 7 machine it all seemed so strange and weird.
But right now if you asked me to make a list of how my XP machine is different than my Win7 machine the only thing that comes to mind is being able to maximize windows by dragging them to the top of the screen. Not saying they aren't different, just that I've apparently internalized them all into one big "computer" and I just switch seamlessly between them like I can use a mouse equally well with either hand. |
Just be glad you got to skip over Vista
|
I didn't. I had Vista at home before Win7. I had absolutely no problem with it either. It proved extremely stable and never gave me any problems.
|
Ugh, I'm an idiot and that was a massive brainfart. I have Vista at home, I've never had Windows 7 (though I'll be getting it here at work in the next few days).
Still very happy with Vista. |
You are one of the few people I know (actually, only) that have said that. It wasn't a total and complete failure, but my experience with Vista was that I spent more time dealing with OS related issues (stability and performance) than I should have; I heard similar complaints from others.
|
I don't think I've rebooted my computer other than to install updates in the last three years. Certainly have never had it crash that I can remember.
I don't think I stress it all that much from a performance perspective but it plays games fine and no problems with Illustrator. |
Vista's problem was spotty hardware support. I had Vista on two different systems. One was rock solid stable, the other was constantly having issues.
As a general rule (no 100%, but true of most of the anecdotal evidence I saw), it had a much harder time with notebooks than desktops. |

Lost out on an awesome nature photography opportunity today (admittedly of the cell phone variety, so I don't think I blew my chance at a pulitzer or anything).
Went to my car at lunch and in the space next to mine I caught sight of a lizard out of the corner of my eye. One of those little lizards ubiquitous to SoCal, maybe a few inches long, 4-5 inches including the tail. (Incidentally, I have NO idea what kind of lizards those are? Anyone? Kevy?). I see them all the time and am in no way afraid of them. But before I even got a good look at this one, something triggered me to be startled, some subconscious indication that this might be weird. After a bit of a jump I got a better look. What I had recognized was that it was stock still and looked like this guy's mouth had been impaled on something. Something blue and stick-like. My first thought was, "Oh sh*t is that lizard choking on a q-tip?!" Like I said, I'm generally totally comfortable around, and pretty fascinated with, these little lizards. However, any animal in distress tends to freak me out. Mostly because I feel like I SHOULD do something to help, but do not possess the wherewithal to do so. "Oh sh*t, I feel bad for the thing, and it's probably within my capability to help, but the though of touching it is freaky and gross - cause what it it's dead, or bleeds on me or some sh*t. But I feel bad!" So yeah, all that was going through me head...until I finally registered that the blue stick sticking out of its mouth was in fact the tail end (still firmly attached to the front end) of an ex dragonfly. This little dude wasn't in distress, I had just interrupted lunch time. The meal was easily as big, if not bigger, than the little lizard. Chow time! Sadly, after I got my phone out of my pocket and started the camera up, I took half a step to lean in for a good shot. That finally spooked him and he bolted, leaving the prize behind. Now I felt bad that I scared him away from an awesome meal. Sorry little dude. (Or dudette I guess, I didn't ask it its gender). |
Ah, nice to see I can still find my wedding dream-tini recipe....wow it's been a while since I checked in :)

We have lots of those lizards. I like them - they eat bugs. They only time they bother me is when they hang out on the wall of the house right about eye level. I don't see them until I get close and when they scurry away. . . I flinch every time. There one that lives near the front of the house that's missing it's tail... but just starting to grow it back. He's easy to identify.

Hi, Nephy! I've decided that rehearsing two shows is too long to sit in one place. I also don't like classes that have large numbers of dancers. These are inevitably the ones who have groups of dancers going offstage, and coming back on in a different wing than they left. This means they have to go around a curtain and dancers seem required to finger the stage drapes as they go past. STOP IT. I mean, in your home do you touch every rotten thing you pass? Every corner? Does your mother make you clean the corners? I would. Not to mention that half of them *fling* it out of the way, which looks really bad from the audience point of view. They see things moving, which catches your attention, and you're now looking offstage instead of at the dancers onstage. Maybe I'm just grumpy. Some schools teach their kids stage manners. This isn't one of them. Not to mention that they have competitive dance teams, which means suggestive dance bits from tiny children. It winds up being a little creepy. I can accept suggestive moves from girls, say, age 15 and up. But at 8? Not so much. |

Sooooo.....we got out new kitty today. My client, Verna, purchased him about 6 years ago, when she was 87. Now that she's 93, she's worried she isn't giving him the level of care he deserves (she totally was- he is a very spoiled little boy), and she asked if we would take him into our family. It was heartbreaking to carry *Buddy and all of his stuff out of her apartment, but I told her if she missed him too much we will gladly bring him back and that we would be ready to take him in again at any time in the future, but she was adamant- today was the time to do it. He's gorgeous- a ragdoll/persian mix, flame point and brilliant blue eyes. He spent a lot of time in his carrier on our bed, then prowled the room and promptly dove under the bed. The other cats are acting predictably: Samwise snarled at him, and Haku seemed mildly interested in him, but more so with his climbing tree, which he sorta broke right off the bat. I told Tori that Haku and *Buddy would probably form an alliance and kick Sammy's ass off the island, but truth be told Sam is the alpha boy, so they'll probably resort to passive- aggressive hissing and toy-hiding. Anyway, *Buddy is being sequestered for the time being until we can gradually integrate him into the household. Have I mentioned how cute and fuzzy he is?:D
*Tori feels he needs a full name, so his new name is Castiel Beauregard (Buddy) Anderson. |
That's wonderful, Wendybeth. New unconditional love in a household is such a great gift.
Circle of life - I said goodbye to my 16-year-old kitty Illuminati this morning. She died on my bed, cradled in my hands. A day ago, she was active and brimming with attitude. Last night, things fell apart very quickly. I'm just glad I got to talk to her on her way out. So, today is going to be really terrible, and some of the days ahead are going to be even worse. But, she was a joyous light in my life. I wouldn't have missed having her for anything. She is survived by her adoptive Maine Coon brother Tsunami. TTFM (Ta Ta For Meow) |

We're okay for now. The neighbor has a generator and we're chipping in for the gas so we can run our fridge (and laptops and internet) off of it. So at least our food won't spoil. The daylight basement is actually fairly cool, what with being mostly surrounded by dirt. Shortly I'm going to gird my loins and take a daylight look at the garden. No damage to our place, that I know of, but a tree branch from our yard tore open part of our neighbor's roof. Happy today that I am a mere renter.
It was indeed a storm like I've never seen before. Just continual lightning for the duration. The rain and wind were like unto that bit in the boring prelude to the backlot tour at disney studios where the guy gets water dumped all over him. It was seriously crazy. They recorded a gust at one of the airports (Dulles, I think) of 79mph. And you know what the really fun part is? (Aside from it being near 100 degrees and having no a/c...) We get to do it all again tonight! |
Oh, and I should mention that the county is under a mandatory water restriction policy because the purification plant lost power and they hadn't filled the tanks or reservoir or whatever before then.
|
Yikes! Be safe, bitter east coasters!

Let it be known, 65 miles, and 4 hours, is a long way to go on a bicycle (you're nuts, Chernabog).

|
*WOOT!!!*
At 8pm last night we got power back! *sigh* It lasted for 10min, now we are back in the dark... |
One of my employees is located in Mumbai.
We were chatting today and got off on tomorrow being a holiday for me and I said "it has been 236 years, I'm pretty much over it" and his response was "your country is so old." I guy from India told me that the US is old. But to him it is, as he said, his country, in terms of government instution, is only 65 years old. Just an interesting reminder that we're both bizarrely young and surprising old as a country. |
We actually got our power back at approximately 9:30pm Sunday. Tonight it went out for about 10 minutes again and I nearly lost it because a cheesecake was in mid-prep. But it came back on so the cheesecake crisis is averted. There are definitely still homes in the neighborhood that are out, and many neighborhood streets are blocked by either trees or downed power lines. A house we drive by every day about 2 blocks from here has downed lines in its front yard.
|
My friend who was told Friday got an update today. Now it is Sunday.
|
*happy dance*
Power finally came back on last night, then went out, then came on, then went out, then came on, then went out then came on and stayed on. *whew* Now all we have to deal with is the perforated garage roof plus the squashed air conditioning unit. Piece of cake. |
People in the Vegas area really like fireworks! Wow! In addition to the general "safe and sane" variety that we lit off in the street with neighbors (my kid's first experience with fireworks you light at home) there were fireworks in the sky everywhere. Down in the valley we could see them exploding all over the place. In our neighborhood, they were in the sky on streets in front and behind ours.

Soooo.... my husbands paycheck was returned for NSF.
Yes. We just moved to another state for this job. I'm trying very hard not to worry about this because, frankly, there is no going back at this point. At least not in a way that would be a planned and easy transition. Also - WTF?! We had banking issues the weekend we moved with our bank changing computer systems, a big move, and walmart charging my credit card twice and starting a fraud alert on my account. Also, my husband paycheck held because of a possible NSF - but that seemed to be cleared up with a quick phone call and immediate release of the funds after I spoke to a different customer service rep. Yes - all that on one weekend as we moved to another state. I chalked it up to the poorest timing ever and lack of training on a new system. Now though? I'm rather alarmed. What sort of business has NSF issues with payroll? And I can't help but wonder if it's actually my bank having issues with out of state affiliate banks and junk. In the mean time, if he deposits a replacement check today, it's not going to clear for days and days. I guess we'll have to open an account at a local credit union after all. |

Sorry, couldn't resist. I know you are a good guy, even when you are a bad boy. Man Betty, that sucks! I hope all gets worked out quickly. Where I work went through tough times, and my paychecks bounced once in a while. I taped the check to a tennis ball and bounced it back into the accounting department. They got a good laugh out of that. |
They're saying it shouldn't have bounced... that same check that had issues the weekend we moved was the one they sent back. And of course, the new check was cashed without any issue so I guess I'll just stop worrying about it unless it happens again.

Thank goodness the new check went through! I can't imagine how scary that was after moving to a new state for the job and then the check bouncing, hopefully it was a one time event.

I ran lights for today's show. First time I've done it for a "real" show, where they have changes and actual design for it. Kind of fun. Scary, because if I screw it up, you can't see the dancers, or it looks funny to the audience. Not to mention it shows on their DVD, since they video the shows. But the client is happy, so my mistakes weren't terrible. :) |

Tonight's 12-hour shift became 14. And was the loudest concert I have yet to work. And we've had some doozies.... but tonight I could hear the cymbals from the drumkit echo off the wall behind my light booth. The cymbals. That's loud. I was physically twitching until I got used to the loudness. I've never had that happen before. |
Earplugs.

Considered it.

So Lani bought one of the DVDs for cats. Lately she's (the cat, not Lani) has taken to sleeping on the TV stand right in front of the TV and every once in a while does show some interest in what is on it. So we were curious if she'd react to it.
It has been so long since I actually used the DVD player (probably 2 years at least now) that I suddenly realized I wasn't entirely sure how to do it. Early adopter (we were the first people we know with one; early abandoner I guess). |
We actually ordered a hummingbird DVD off of PBS for our cat,, sad but true. Which reminds me it hasn't arrived yet, should go check on that.
|
And the answer was yes, the cat did react to what was on the TV, but interestingly, not in the same way she reacts to birds and squirrels outside the window.
|
Apparently there was a train derailment in Montana and my DVD was on it, bummer.

Did it skip when the train derailed?

Re: cats and TV...
We keep a running list of things our cat Greta enjoys on TV. Here is the current tally: The Puppy Bowl Professional tennis Any and all versions of The Nutcracker The animated birds in Rio (she trills/chirps at them like she does for real birds) Cats in any form, especially My Cat From Hell The Fabulous Baker Boys Miike's gory film Audition Any and all westerns |
GD's story reminds me of a little girl that Susan used to watch. We had just picked her up and were driving her to our place.
Susan: We're going to have meatballs for dinner Girl: I don't like meatballs! Me: How about balls of meat? Girl: Okay! |
Lol- you're brave, LS. No way I'd let my cats watch 'Cat from Hell'- it would only give them ideas.......

My mother's 25lb declawed (in front) linebacker of a cat can take down a hummingbird, as he demonstrated recently. My four? Excited about birds only when they're on the other side of the glass. Although they're pretty good about taking care of bugs.
|
What kind of bird was it?
Growing up we had cats that were expert bird hunters when outside but showed absolutely no interest in the birds (cockatiels and finches mostly) inside. My current cat once attacked a flock of wild turkeys (momentarily riding on the back of a big old tom). No idea how she'd react to a bird inside the house since I'd never let a bird inside the house (growing up with them I am too aware of how insane they are). |

Speaking of pets eating different animals, I got a free sample of dog food the other day. It was made with real kangaroo meat! The dog hated it....
Also, my dog is named Pooh Bear. When I signed up for the Pals card from petsmart, I just put "Pooh" on it for the birthday promo they do. I got the email the other day saying "A birthday gift for POON". All in caps! POON! My cat story is my cat growing up was on the side yard. It was only about 6 foot wide (the sideyard, not the cat). Something that looked to me to be a butterfly fluttered down in a long slow swooping arch down to where my cat was sitting. It got right about 3 feet above her, when she lept up and caught it in her mouth. It looked strangly as though it flew right into her mouth! But then it started squeeling. This made my skin crawl as I new butterfies didn't squeel. Then the cat opened her mouth to get a better grip, but it flew out and away. It was at that time that I could see that it was a humming bird. And I stood there with my mouth hanging open over what I just saw! |
I'm glad our current cat has not discovered hummingbirds, and in general prefers rodents. I'd like for her to prefer gophers, but I think she rather likes mice.

Poor Sputnik is a sick kitty. We noticed she had a UTI last week, but by the time she let us know, in the way cats usually let their humans know that all is not right with world, and we got her to the vet, it was bad. REALLY bad. After a week on the antibiotic and her still leaving bloody urine all over the house, we took her back in. Turns out she has bladder stones and needs surgery tomorrow. :( Poor little Sputnik!

Awww. Poor lil Sputnik.

Poor Sputnick; I hope she has an excellent re-entry.
We took Moglet in to the vet last week. Nothing obvious, so we had a blood test ran. The official diagnosis: she's old (well, she is 16). Of course, although she has had balance issues around the house, as soon as we took her to the vet, she was fine. Back home, she is falling over. |

Mwah to y'all for the good wedding vibes!
So, wedding rehearsal the afternoon before, outside, my not-very-high heels are sinking into the grass. I introduce myself to one of the groom's relatives, "I'm Helen, this is Tom, and this (throwing my arm around the woman next to me) is our daughter." Oops, it was my sun-wrinkled sister. We get that straightened out and then my not-so-high-heel disengages from the grass and I stumble forward so I explain ... ... "I'm not drunk!" Yeah, that relative was real convinced. Otherwise, it was perfection. Even though it rained the day of the ceremony and we held it on the iconic porch of the Grand Hotel instead of the tea garden, it was perfection. How often in life do you get to say there's not a thing you would have changed? I hope you all can get to Mackinac Island some day if you haven't already been. It's Main Street USA come to life. |

Same as everyone else: Being dead.
That's what I was referring to with the Jehovah's Witnesses. They don't believe in hell either. The binary option is eternal life on earth or eternal death/oblivion (with a very select few getting option #3: eternal time in heaven). |
Quote:
Most discussion in Torah is in terms of punishment during life. Discussion of afterlife punishment comes in 2 forms. First is simply that, unlike those that have been good, you will not be reunited with your loved ones. Then there's talk of the "World To Come" which gets used somewhat interchangeably to refer to the spiritual life after death AND the world reboot that will happen after the arrival of the messiah (not Jesus). Basically, lack of goodness will lead to less standing in the World To Come. As a practical matter, those are topics that only come up for the most part in circles doing deep reads of Torah/Talmud/rabbinical writings. Discussion of afterlife and eternal punishment/reward is not common in Jewish education. |
Quote:
|
|
Other religions with no, or essentialy no, afterlife element include:
Confuscianism, Epicurianism, Shinto (mostly they leave that to the Buddhist half of life), and Taoism. On the hell question, that's a long running debate in various Christian circles. I think it was This American Life that did a long story on the reaction when the preacher at a fundamentalist megachurch decided he no longer believes in the existence of hell. |

Video showing a brilliant and easy way to separate the yolk from an egg. It's not in English, but that doesn't matter.
|
Ok, it is cool that it works but isn't the normal way faster and easier?
|
What is your normal way?
I think the two-shell-shuffle is neither faster nor easier and definitely messier. If you have a gadget specifically designed to separate yolks, that might be a push. |
I've always used the two shell shuffle, and find it both easy and non-messy. The other way I've seen others do it is through their fingers- messy and slimy. Though the water bottle trick is impressive when you have an audience!
Or if you need a lot of eggs seperated, you could crack them all in a big bowl, then seperate all of the egg yolks out in one step (emptying the single yolk out of the bottle each time, of course). Just make sure it's not a nasty spit infested water bottle full of germs! |
No, separating in the shell is what I consider the normal way. Takes about five seconds an egg and have never made any mess with it.

Lately I've been buying dresses and thinking, why don't I wear these all the time? They often don't do well sitting on park benches and playing in the sand box. But if I'm going to a meeting or coffee or window shopping, why not? There were some other moms with the same idea that day, but we were in the minority in a sea of momjeans both literal and figurative. Almost sadder is the worn out, outdated, used-to-be office wear. I've become a mom clothing snob....oh well ;) |
I tried my hand at archery today. It was my first attempt since the 5th grade, and I only had the strength to shoot three times, but apparently I might actually be good at this with some practice. Shot three times from the 10ft line, which isn't hugely impressive, but for my first shoot in umpty umpty years I shot the first over the target, the second almost in the outermost ring, and the second in the second-from-outermost ring. I guess I have a new hobby!
Might go to Pennsic next year as a combat archer. As part of an all-female squad with magnetic hello kitty ears and sailor moon pigtails for our helms. I mean, what's more embarrassing - being killed from a distance by archers or being killed from a distance by a bunch of female archers archers dressed like armored hello kitties? |

They just called and my husband jokes that they'll be here tomorrow. Tomorrow?! Nah... Wednesday. Sooo... day after tomorrow? lol I'm happy to have them visit. Tomorrow is cleaning day I guess. And I need to figure out what to feed them. Can't afford to take them out for a nice dinner this week - which sucks. But short notice so oh well. |

So I added to my little Doctor Who spoonflower collection tonight. Been working on drawings for it for a bit. Technically I guess I wanted more images to be part of it, but ran out of patience. Still, I'm pretty pleased at how it came out.

|
That's wonderful! I hope you love your new school, it looks awesome.

Hi MG - how are the nails?
Oh, and Kevy: HILARIOUS !! |
hey Lash. Nails have been gone for over a year. I just couldn't afford it any more.

Hows the boy doing?

So, yesterday I was on a boring conference call and was zooming around Google Maps. At one point I zoomed out and then zoomed in and noticed that on the third level in the first city markers appeared on the map.
And some of them struck me as odd. Portland is there, but not San Francisco. Houston, Dallas and San Antonio but no New Orleans. No Miami, Atlanta, etc. Anyway, then my brain wandered and I wondered which was the most remote of those few cities honored enough to be listed at the 3rd level of Google Maps zoom. I can now tell you the answer is Darwin, Australia, at about 2619 km from the nearest listed city of Adelaide. The two closest cities are Tallinn, Estonia, and Helsinki, Finland, at just 84 km away from each other (with Akita and Marioka Japan within the margin of error at 90 km). You might think this is why they shouldn't put me on boring conference calls. You'd not be entirely correct. Me being able to show my work is why they shouldn't put me on boring conference calls. Spoiler:
|
Hey! I can see my house !!
...and Darwin is the sort of place people emigrate to avoid. Well, that's my Darwinian theory, anyway. |
Someone/something keeps calling me from an unknown number. I blatantly send it to voicemail. I suspect an auto-dialer.
|
Possibly a fax machine? We've had that before.
|
Quote:
After a few years of this he actually called the number that was printed on the top of the fax and found out it was someone's home in NJ. The admin had gotten a new fax machine and when she put in the parameters inverted two numbers. So he had been faxing to some poor guy in NJ's phone for two years. And at wacky hours since he's west coast. |
Long before that I would have tried faxing the number the back telling them to knock it off.
|
But how many people still own a fax machine at home?

Lots of people at our company do - so as to be able to fax said exec. Our office has two.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600, that is a printer, has a fax, copy scanner, bluetooth, and is accesible through the internets with it's own email address. It's pretty cool. I can even search for things to print from the internet directly from the printer.
|
But do you use it as a fax machine?
|
The two at my office are stand alone (just try to replace one it's not easy to find).
|
We get our stand alone fax machine replacements from South Coast print care.

Expense report receipts are the only reason I've used a fax in the last five years.

It's not often, but when I need it, it comes in handy. Funny, when I first got one I felt like I had the world at my fingertips. Now it almost seem barbaric! |
I still own one. I don't think it can print anymore due to nobody makes a replacement for whatever the heck it uses (some weird part nobody uses any more, it was a cheap fax to begin with). I should get rid of it, it's not like we have a phone line anyway.

From a bumper sticker seen on the way back from breakfast this morning:
My zombie child ate you honor student's BRAINZ! |
Soo.... I've been reminded that working over 60 hours in a week is kind of exhausting.
|
Ya think?
Well, get some rest now. So you can do it again! |
Yay! I'm not on a non-dino computer. I've upgaded from 0.5 Gig ram to 6 gigs, and from a pentium 4 to a Intel 2 Quad processor. So far it is like day and night!

Welcome :)

I have an interview today at 11 am. I am TOTALLY going to get that job! Yes-sir-ee-bob.
|
You totally are!
|
Good luck Betty!

Good Luck!

Has anyone seen my keys? I can't seem to find them.
|
Where did you leave them?
/ducks/ |
They should be in the last place you look.
But knowing you, you may just keep looking for them even after you found them. |
Found um!
They were in the pocket of someone that was in my office earlier today. Nobody ever expects the full body pat down at the elevator.... And my thanks to the TSA for making everyone accept that as normal.... |
Hey... a new excuse for feeling up your coworkers. "I lost my keys: let me see if they are in one of your pockets."
|
How'd you do, Betty?
|
Carsland is pretty. And much easier to photograph the neon after the park closes and everybody else leaves. There were a handful of people in the area, everybody with cameras, and nobody else.
|
I tried that once, but security wasn't happy with me being there at 4:00 a.m.

I was checking my credit card account today when I noticed the "rewards" button. Damn, it turns out there was a load of pirate plunder hiding there. I guess I should check it more often than never. I opted for cash back into my account and this months CC bill is paid. Happy dance.

gawd I wish I could go see A Wicked Rocky Horror Show in Vegas this Monday.
|
that would be so awesome. I'm sorry i even looked.

I just picked up a new album. It ROCKS!

My homeowner's association hired a new management company about a year ago that seemed a little unprofessional. It took them a couple of months to start sending out bills on a regular basis and the return envelope they send with the bill is just a small stationery envelope with their address stamped on it. But they seemed to be doing okay until now.
My last statement showed that the previous payment I'd sent them hadn't been credited and, sure enough, the check has not been cashed. But there was no late fee on the statement. I sent them a check for the current and past due amount and have been checking my bank account to see if it's been cashed. I called earlier this week and they told they were working on checks at that moment and call tomorrow. I had an appointment in the area of their office today so I decided to stop by if the check still hadn't cleared the bank. The receptionist checked with someone in back and told me there was a stack of checks they were working on and to call back Monday. I told her I would just check my bank account. The fact that there was no late fee charged makes me think they really are backed up. But really? What kind of business operates like this? I pay my bills on time and I don't appreciate not getting the same courtesy on the other end. |
Any good gift ideas?
On of my in-laws is having a hard time of it. His wife was in a fairly serious car accident and she has been (and will be) in the hospital for an extended amount of time while the docs do what they can do rebuild various parts of her. The family has rallied round her in heart warming fashion suitable for a hallmark movie so I think all that can be done for her is being done. I know from experience how heavy the burden of caring for someone else can be, so I'd like to send him a little 'Thinking of you/pick me up' type of thing. Any suggestions? I know he's uber careful about what he eats (ie no sees candy). I don't think he reads much. He has a long drive to/from the hospital on a regular basis. Oh and he just sent his only daughter off to college as well. |

Also gift cards for meals - so he doesn't have to cook. If you live close enough home made freezable meals, lasagna, enchiladas that he can just pop in the oven.
Also if you live close enough any chores like laundry, housecleaning, yard work so he doesn't have that burden on him as well. |

Can he boil water? If so, https://popuppantry.com/ might be a good fit.

Also having been in a similar situation for a while. A simple phone call to say hello and ask if you can do anything every few days really does mean a lot.

Amazing except for one error: the twentieth word is twenty letters long.

Ok, so the person who is pointing out the brilliance of the person who wrote that sentance..... is an idiot. Keep calm and carry on. ;)
