My semester is now concluded. Everything's turned in. All exams concluded. We are now into the 1-year countdown/panic.

So today in our week-long effort to clean our garage, was our day of hauling. Our first stop was to a local "E-Waste" disposal site. Under the latest environmental laws, most electronics qualify as hazardous waste and cannot be placed in normal trash, so being the responsible citizens that we are we made a trek to San Pedro.

The experience was something out of an apocalyptic sci-fi flicks. The address on Gaffey was a hand painted sign, in one of those - oops-I-wrote-to-big shrinking fonts. Other signs directed us through the industrial sites, and ultimately through a driveway onto a plastic tarp next to a shack like structure with carts overloaded with electronics. The employees, dressed in white hazmat jumpsuits, moved like zombies and immediately began pulling things out of my car, they mumbled things we didn't understand and took quite awhile to figure out the box of books and my tire-iron were not eWaste and needed to be left in the car. As soon as the next car drove up, they were on it and I drove off through a colonnaded of traffic cones directing me back to the street. I wish I took some pictures

You should see the reaction I get when I go to dispose of my used computer coolant (neon green, UV reactive).

Prudence was rude enough to send her little storm my way and we lost power for most of last night. Kick ass winds, though! At one point, I was a little worried that a tornado might be approaching. It was pitch dark, the wind was howling and then I distinctly heard the sound of an approaching train. (We live nowhere near train tracks). Then it seemed to just fade out, but it was a little bit scary..... I got about two hours sleep, had to work all day then attend a Deaf/HOH Christmas party at Tori's ENT's office. It was very fun seeing all the kids from her preschool days, but a bit sad to see all the many new little ones that are entering the system.

Who ME? naw... I just go to the pancake parlour for breakfast, sometimes I go to the hairdresser parlour, and if I feel like a bit of sport, I go to the Bowling Parlour.

...and watch out with the wisecracks buddy or you'll end up with two gross of lightbulbs on your doorstep.

So... I went to my "office" holiday party yesterday. It was nice. 27 school and program (violence prevention, drug rehab) employees got to leave the jail and go to a restaurant at noon for a steak, chicken or salmon lunch. I chose steak. The anonymous and random gift exchange was also painless. I brought a Starbucks gift card, and left with an American Express gift card. I was home by 2:30 pm.

Because my recent schedule (5:45 am to 2:00 pm) has completely thrown off my sleep patterns, I've been awake for a couple of hours today, and have been flipping through some awful choices on TV. Here's what I'm watching right now:

"Today." Jeremy Irons; Paula Deen; a performance by the Abyssinian Baptist Choir. Also: hosiery.

Well, we have one more day dedicated to the Dungeon. We've made excellent progress and, my only regret, is that we didn't take "before" pictures. We dropped off the electronics at the Zombie Lot yesterday then took 2 full car loads to Out of the Closet. We then bought and assembled two heavy duty metal shelf units. Today, out big goal is to load them up and go through the rest of the stuff that remains. One more trip to the thrift store may be in order. Then we can relax.

My bratty SIL and Bro sent us a box yesterday (after I told them what we were doing). The box contained about 10 fake and feathered birds that were my Mother's. (I already found my own share of them). I think I'll hang them all from the rafters of the garage, set up the bed in the middle of the floor and invite them down to stay in the coop.
