I would rather have leeches attached to my genitals than switch back to AT&T.

Rather an apt metaphor, when you think about it.

My boss just picked up an iPhone on ebay...

It does look pretty cool. Not cool enough to get me to use Cingular again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who'd rather have genital-leeches than Cingular/AT&T. And I LOVE that its garnered such bad publicity from the release of the iPhone.

But, still, a mightly YAWN from me for the whole device. And this from one who hates cell phone menus.

Speaking of Cingular, one of their class action lawsuits was settled recently. I received a check from the first time I had them (maybe 10 years ago) where I had to buy myself out of the contract due to poor service. I received a check for the amount I paid to buy out.

That's actually kind of surprising. Usually you get a credit that you will never use. In a class action against AT&T wireless, I received a coupon for 40% off of accessories. Accessories that were over-priced to begin with

I'm waiting to see what will come of the class action suit over the merger and how Cingular refused to help AT&T customers unless they converted their accounts and then charged them for new [more expensive plans], new equipment and activation fees, charging termination fees to those who were no longer receiving the same quality reception as they did with AT&T and converting accounts from AT&T into Cingular accounts with no notice and requiring new phones, plans and activation fees to be paid before they would assist you (this is what happened to me).

Hmm... I wonder if having my complaint resolved through the PUC means I'm cut out of that one.

Maybe. But maybe not. My first complaint went up to the PUC.

You should have received a letter a while ago stating that there was a class action lawsuit going on. You were qualified to participate in the merger lawsuit if you switched to a Cingular plan after the merger and had to lay out for new equipment and pay new activation charges or bought out before a certain date. I'm not clear on the specifics anymore.

I upgraded to a new phone but did not have to pay anything to do it, nor did I pay to get out of my contract, since I resolutely refused to do so and it was eventually resolved after my complaint to the puc - took several months though.

I am the sort of person who ruins or loses some of my favorite belongings. I've lost almost every single sweater I've ever called 'favorite'. I recently lost Sputnik Sweetheart, my nearly new Nano iPod I purchased in February of this year. Before that, I lost my CD player. The electronic devices I do own usually crap out on me, eventually.

There is every reason in the world for why I shouldn't consolidate expensive items into one even more expensive item. Instead of losing one item, I run the risk of losing my everything-in-one item. So for that reason I'm not a huge fan of cell phones that can also be music players or cameras. Or cell phones that can be your calendar/contacts book. Or cell phones that are also PCs, iPods, etc., etc., etc. I'm the kind of person who likes to compartmentalize, for better or worse.
