heehee- this idea just sounds freaking fabulous! What a story this would be!

If you go ahead with this, we want to be in attendance. We'll send a pic of us dressed up (pirates or tuxedos we're not sure yet) and you can print it and bring it with you so we can "be in the boat" with you at the time.

OMG- this is turning into something truly unique and fun.

*lol*

No hugs necessary Nephy, I have been planning a wedding in the stretching room for someone near and dear and we researched the legality of the ceremony vs interfering with the show for Disney and it really is all about the trimmings making the difference.

You could have saved a lot of time on research just by watching Spaceballs.

Do you?
Yes
Do you?
yes
GOOD, you're married. Kiss her!

LOL actually that won't work, they have to specifically agree to take this person in marriage, the words can be a bit different, like to you take this mans hand in marriage or other choices but the words do you take this person as your spouse have to be said for it to be considered legal, do you , yes, do you , yes, won't hold up in a court of law but it works as a great gag.

So, with 5 people involved (officiant, couple, witnesses), the ONLY reason the exact wording could possibly matter is if someone decides to argue for an annulment. And in a court, I imagine a valid signed marriage license is going to hold a lot more weight than "he said/she said" testimony with sentence diagrams concerning whether the exact right question was asked. For all practical purposes, it's the signed contract that matters.

Very true! I just know that my brother said that none of the officiants he knows would agree to simplfy down to that level but if they could find one that would then you're absolutely right, the license would hold the most weight.

Disneyphile 02-05-2008 05:12 PM

Yeah, but would "Arrrr!" be as legally binding as "yes"? ;)

~MS~ 02-05-2008 05:19 PM

You know I would say it would, bro said that the law doesn't require it to be in english, just that the officiant be able to swear that the answers were in the affirmatives. Which is how the sign language issue came up.
