While there's some interesting stuff, and the books certainly take me back to my 17-year-old shirtless, marble-chested days--they were written with me in mind, right--I really don't think that--forgetting the 150 pages of eye-rolling and awkward transitions--there are four books worth of good material here. Lots of bad writing to equal the good, and each final, dramatic confrontation feels tacked on for Hollywood and could have been trashed.

My wife tells me that "The Host" is much better written.

I've got the host and couldn't really get into it... maybe I'll give it another try.

I quite agree that she needs an editor with a firmer hand. But then, at times I thought that of JK Rowling, too. Still, I rarely had a stretch of Potter book when I felt a bit bored. I also rarely had a stretch of Potter book when I psychoanalyzed the author. (Well, while I was reading it, at least.)

Still, I seem to not be able to stop myself from reading!

New show coming out on HBO called True Blood.

You can rent the first episode for free from Blockbuster rigth now - although I think it may debut tonight? Not sure. I don't have HBO so if I like it, I'll have to get it or look for a torrent of it or something.

I thought it was funny that on the HBO wiki page for it, they have a collabrative map that others have posted locations of "possible vampire nests". Featured is Forks, Denalli, Voltera, etc.

So, I've got the first show here and I'll let you know what I think...

Well - I don't like the show as much as I like the books. I can see it might have some potential, but I'm rather doubting it.

I couldn't help but compare it to the Twlight series - but more like a grown up version of it. There was some sex and boobies and nsfw scenes but - meh.

I'll try a few more episodes though and see how things progress.

Okay - I bought the first book based on the TV show True Blood. The book is Dead until Dark by Charlaine Harris.

While I didn't like it quite as much as the Twilight series, I enjoyed it enough that I've been to 1 book store and called 4 more in search of the 2nd in the series. (which I finally found and will be driving 1/2 hour to go get on my lunch.)

I think I would have really really liked the series a lot more if I'd read it before Twilight. I find that I now compare all other vampire things to Twilight now. So while it's not as good,

I should point out that this book is not in the teen section as it does have some somewhat graphic, yet fairly brief sex scenes. (woo-hoo!) And fangs. ;) If you're into that. heh heh.

Ahh.. Sookie Stackhouse. My friend loves those books! :D I've not read them yet, though I hear they are definitely addictive!

I finished the series the other day! I enjoyed most of it and would definitely recommend it to others.

Spoiler:
I was pleased with the 4th book and the ending. I hated Jacob at the end of book 3 and almost stopped reading right then and there because of how much he pissed me off. Book 3 reminded me of the Pirates 2 movie in that it seemed like it was just there to hold you over until book 4.

I have a feeling that I may end up picking this up. It seems like a good October read.
