It's mostly a holdover, yes.
Some programs, especially games with a lot of command options, utilize it for other purposes.

Overwrite is a necessity in the software my library uses (new as of 2004). It's lame that it's necessary, but it is.

It's the Caps Lock key that drives me nuts. I finally disable it altogether.

And yes, in the days of DOS, it was the best way to edit text.

So....how was my week? Well, from spending last Saturday night in the ER from pain through yesterday's root canal -- pretty crappy, actually. I've been mostly out of my head on pain pills all week to cope.

On the plus side, I apparently astounded the endodontist with the amount of pus that spewed forth from my tooth.

OMG Prudence!!! That sounds horrible!! I've had tooth pain but I've never been to the ER for it! OMG
