My daughter's best friend (who we no longer live near) gave birth this morning. She's 17. She is giving the baby up for adoption to a lovely couple who can't have children.

She posted a photo of him and it made me cry. I can't imagine giving my baby away to someone. Adoption is the best solution in this situation and is one that my daugther encouraged her towards. (as well as getting rid of the scummy fauther but we can't win them all.) I'm so glad it's not my daughter in this situation.

What an incredible thing for this childless couple. They've been through this once before and had the baby for 3 months and somehow the mother was able to change her mind and take the baby back. I can't even imagine.

Susan's cousin adopted a baby in a similar situation (though I don't know the birth mother's full story). Cousin and her husband have kept the birth mother involved in the child's life, inviting her to birthday parties and such.

I really should ask Susan how long they are going to keep this up and how involved the mother is.

So, it's been more about 7 hours since the last post.

I assume you're all off having Huddle Orgies or whatever the new thing is?

I've been packing. It's all I do any more. Pack pack pack pack pack. This is making future employment with the military look very attractive - you get to travel the world and they do all the heavy lifting.

Yes, if there is one thing the military does well, it is haircuts. If there's two, it is hair cuts and moving.

From time to time we get emails from out homeowners association. Critical updates about mahjong club meetings and broken street lights. Today's email missive was:

Please be aware that there have been Brown Bear sightings for two consecutive nights
Huh. Perhaps I should not add them to my spam bucket after all.

I may have to reactive the snowmegeddon cam and leave the top off all our trash cans.

Update:

The bear warning has been downgraded to a black bear sighting. Which they tell me is better overall.

Yeah, a brown bear sighting in your neck of the woods would have zookeepers ordering triplechecks of their cages.

"Bears? Bears? Bears are sweet..."
