For the record, I'm hitting the road in a couple hours. I'll be coming in sometime after dinner on Friday night.

If we're desperately in need of something, call me. Number's on my website

Ciao!

Have a great time! Next year, maybe I can manage to no longer be a camping virgin! :)

if theres any way possible, this is how you want to start. however, know that you will be sooo camping spoiled, that anything less would be considered zero.

If I end up spending the night I'll probably just sleep on the ground next to my car (sometimes I sleep on picnic table benches if the ground is too lumpy) -- so all you bear-phobes can sleep soundly knowing that an unwrapped, well-marbled snack is readily available to them. I hope that doesn't strike anybody as too extravagant.

I don't know that I've ever seen preparing for camping viewed as stressful before. Oh well, I hope everybody's stress dissolves with the views as you descend down into King's Canyon so you're fresh and happy by the time you step out of the car.

As long as it is not MY junk being hoisted.

Oh, and KB/GusGus, are you bringing the large water bottles again?

Yes: two 3-gallon bottles plus a cistern. Plus personal size (12 oz?) bottles

(I'm also going to make salsa instead of guacamole, since I can make that ahead of time as well.)

Taquitos need guacamole.

Also, are we still doing the ... pancake/bacon fest breakfast?

I have the Sunday morning breakfast covered solo (Bacon, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, bacon and bacon). I have the process down pretty good, so I really don't need much help on it. Maybe if you danced naked for me it might provide inspiration.

Sometimes if picnic table benches are too comfortable, I like to sleep on spikes, or pinecones if spikes aren't available. Then I boil up some tree bark for breakfast because bacon is too tasty. These are the woods damn it!

I sleep on the floor at home with regularity so sleeping on the ground while camping isn't a hardship. And setting up a tent for just one night is more pain than reward.

Picnic benches are surprisingly comfortable (for side sleeping). Though every once in a while I wake up suddenly thinking I'm about to fall off (but I've never actually fallen off).

I don't know, would you settle for a Tub-Sized Queen instead ? :D

Wouldn't the actual table be roomier?

Alex 06-02-2008 01:39 PM

Yes, but there's usually stuff on the picnic table.
