My same out loud process:

Spoiler:

A. The small car and the van combine to make me think Europe. Coastal grasses confirm that it is a coast area and not just a lake in the distance. Steeply sloped roofs suggest somewhere that gets a lot of snow in winter. Could easily see this as Scandinavia, England or Germany. Not a lot for me to go on. Will guess somewhere southern Scandinavia and see what I get.

Amsterdam. Doubled GD's distance.

B. Pretty sure that is a Norwegian flag. There is a sign on a building that might help if it were clearer. One street sign also suggests Europe. General tone of photo suggests to me that this may actually be early spring so I'm go reasonably far north in Norway along the mountain range that forms border with Sweden.

Svalbard. ****, seeing that I now suspect that was on the blurry sign on the building. Didn't go far enough north. But still closer than GD.

C. Almost nothing to go on. Somewhere that gets enough snow to have those tall sticks to mark the edge of the road. Not super snowy area, though based on the height of them. But could still be anywhere in the world. Going to guess somewhere farther south but high mountains. So with nothing else to go on I'm gong to guess in the Cascades but could just as easily be somewhere in Russia.

Yep. Sweden. GD looks farther away in Alaska but benefits from Mercator projection.

D. Cyrillic. So probably Russia, Bulgaria, or Ukraine. Orthodox churches. Let's see, we have a billboard for a 3D Cinema off behind the trees. That building says "Torgovy Center." Which confirms it isn't Bulgaria (also Cyrillic alphabet since for some reason I remember than центр is център in Bulgarian). Still, could be most of the European SSRs. That other building has ads for "financing and credit" as well as taxis. The sign on top of the building says "Gostinitza" which unfortunately is just "hotel". Other end of the building is advertising computers.

Lost of fun straining my faint memories of Russian but no real help. Looks like terrain in the distance is relatively flat. Will go with western Russia to keep Urkaine and Belarus in play. But no real idea.

Slightly beat by GD again. One of these Russian spots will actually give me a benefit for reading Cyrillic.

E. Pretty obviously Mexico but could easily be wrong. Ocean says Pacific more than Caribbean to me but that is a gut thing. Fair sized c shaped inlet. Just because it is the first general match I saw for an inlet with a road right on the beach I'll pick this place at the northern armpit of the Gulf of California.

And GD kicks my but on that one.

I lose by a 1000.

ETA: Wow, my guess for B was almost perfect for C.

Not having much luck here.

Notes:
Spoiler:

#1: kph road sign, heavy pitch to roof implying snow, large industrial looking building, I guessed Helsinki, too far north.

#2 Polar bear sign, parking lot full of snow mobiles, Norway flag, water to the north, Toursit feel. Searched to find a way up north town with a museam. I guessed too far south.

#3 Crap, another of these stupid middle of nowhere ones. Birch trees, mostly short trees, Orange "snow poles" marking the edge of the road. Rolling hills, I'm going Yukon but edging a bit east just in case. Bang on the monet north/south, not so much east west.

#4 Ahh, I've been here before on Geogueeser. Not that it helps me much, east of Moscow I think.

#5, Not US, Ocean to the South, Spanish signs along with some english, Mid-sized waves, And.... Not Puerto Rico. Gaahhh. I lose again.

Here we are at the end of time.

This!

Ha! I'm the one with a camera, I must admit. Any time I don't have a camera, I always see something that I'm itching to shoot. I see the world through the eye of a camera and in terms of how it would photograph.

Maybe photos are distracting for some people but it works for me.

I know I've said this to someone on this board before bur I can't remember whom.

But, nothing we're generally better at than judging people for behaving irrationally incorrectly.

Today's XKCD. Memorizing.

Frequency.

Ghoulish Delight 02-17-2014 09:49 AM

Was just staring at that. Turn signal made me laugh.

He should seasonally and time adjust them. I'm guessing little league players strike out much more frequently on a Saturday afternoon in June than a Monday morning in February.

Gahhhh! How deep does this rabbit hole go!
